Job summary

Progress Rail is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to assess product quality and ensure compliance with engineering and manufacturing specifications. The role involves resolving quality issues, guiding process improvements, and coordinating with suppliers.

The engineer will review PPAPs, utilize Six Sigma, and collaborate with project teams to meet deliverables. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering and experience in supplier quality, SPC/DOE, and SAP usage.

Qualifications

  • Reviews PPAP submissions and supplier documentation.
  • Interacts with production, suppliers, and engineers to investigate quality issues.
  • Works with suppliers to resolve supplier-related issues.
  • Determines quality of critical parts and supplier approvals.
  • Assigns design assembly to a design engineer for review and approval.
  • Eliminates defects of casted/forged parts via SPC, DOE, and Six Sigma concepts.
  • Works with project teams to define project deliverables.
  • Uses SAP to assess inventory impact and necessary adjustments.
  • Applies Six Sigma to eliminate defects via SPE/DOE.
  • Conducts supplier audits and tracks improvement actions to closure.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions
  • Strength - Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent/constant sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light-level lifting or carrying (up to 10 pounds);
  • Motion - Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment;
  • Vision/Hearing Requirements - Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;
  • Work Environment - Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE;
  • Emotional Demands - Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards. Domestic and international travel as required;
  • Safety - Position may occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment during visits to industrial areas.
