Job summary

Progress Rail in LaGrange, IL is seeking a testing engineer to support engineering test activities for world-class rail products. You will provide process and measurement support, analyze system interactions, and manage projects from requirements through commissioning.

The role requires reading P&IDs, data acquisition, and travel up to 25%. You will collaborate with multiple engineering groups and remote sites to deliver safe, reliable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Project.
  • Data acquisition systems.
  • Ability to read and create P&IDs, schematics & drawings.
  • Awareness of PLC logic & controls.
  • Travel may be required up to 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process and measurement support for vehicle and engine testing.
  • Understand system-level interactions of processes and equipment.
  • Full project lifecycle management from defining customer requirements through commissioning and operation.
  • Develop project plans and technical solutions for test programs and facility modifications.
  • Work with other engineering groups, suppliers, purchasing, plant personnel, etc. to deliver projects.
  • Support remote manufacturing sites in test operations and facilities.

Required:

Working knowledge of:

  • Travel may be required up to 25% of the time.

  • Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 & FactoryTalk;
  • A&D Adapt & iTest;
  • DewesoftX;
  • SAE J1939, or other CAN protocols;
  • Building Codes, NFPA Codes & Standards, FM Global data sheets;
  • EPA test methods and requirements;
  • Engine & genset testing, specifically for large diesel engines.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
  • Strength – Position typically involves work in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment. Frequent sitting. Occasional standing and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting (up to 30 pounds).
  • Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working in an office environment.
  • Vision/Hearing Requirements – Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing.
  • Work Environment – Position is typically located in an office environment with occasional visits to an industrial environment which may include a non-temperature-controlled environment, as well as exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, heavy machinery and other hazardous working conditions requiring the use of PPE.
  • Emotional Demands – Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards.
  • Safety – Position is safety sensitive, as it requires working in and around live tracks and operation and repair of heavy equipment. Position requires strict adherence to safety policies (i.e., blue flag) and use of all PPE.
