Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer within our Data Center Solutions group in Gilbert, AZ. You will monitor supplier performance, execute APQP/PPAP for new and modified parts, drive supplier quality issues to closure, and collaborate with plants to track cost of poor quality and initiate chargebacks.

You will work with Quality Engineers, suppliers, and cross‑functional teams to implement root cause actions, containment, and corrective actions, while maintaining KPI oversight

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other technical discipline.
  • 3 years’ experience in supplier quality engineering (SQE) and/or assurance (SQA).
  • Proven track record using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Ability to operate in cross-functional teams.
  • Able to communicate with multiple cultures/regions.
  • Up to 30% travel (domestic and international).
  • AIAG Core Tools knowledge: APQP, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, MSA, Control Plan.
  • Comfort with accountability and giving/reviewing feedback.
  • Familiarity reading engineering drawings and GD&T; CAD software.
  • Experience with ISO 9001.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with plant Quality Engineers to address supplier issues.
  • Coordinate isolation and containment of suspect material.
  • Manage return materials process to suppliers.
  • Coordinate sorting/rework activities with suppliers.
  • Communicate across North American plants to identify top supplier issues.
  • Ensure effective root cause and preventive actions from suppliers.
  • Review and approve supplier corrective actions.
  • Monitor KPIs on supplier issues.
  • Develop inspection strategies based on DFMEA and past performance.
  • Execute APQP and PPAP for new/modified parts per JCI procedures.
  • Participate with Corporate Supplier Quality Team to evaluate suppliers.

What You Will Do

You will monitor supplier performance, execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new and modified parts/components, drive daily supplier quality issues to closure, analyze supplier issues across Silent-Aire plants, and track supplier cost of poor quality and initiate supplier chargebacks.

How You Will Do It
  • Work closely with the plant Quality Engineers to address supplier issues.
  • Coordinate the isolation and containment of suspect supplied material.
  • Manage the return materials process to suppliers.
  • Coordinate the sorting/rework activities with the suppliers.
  • Communicate across the North American plants to determine the top five issues and worst performing suppliers for transfer to Corporate Supplier Quality.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure that effective root cause and preventive actions are provided for supplier issues.
  • Review and approve supplier corrective actions.
  • Monitor key KPIs relating to supplier issues (i.e. responsiveness, repeat issues, etc.).
  • Develop receiving inspection strategies based on critical components defined by the DFMEA (designfailure modeand effect analysis) process and past supplier performance.
  • Execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for new and modified parts/components according to JCI procedures and standards.
  • Participating with the corporate Supplier Quality Team to evaluate new and existing suppliers.
Required
What we look for
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other technical discipline.
  • 3 years’ experience within supplier quality engineering (SQE) and/or assurance (SQA).
  • Proven track record using structured problem-solving methodologies to resolve manufacturing and systemic issues.
  • Effectively operate in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple cultures/regions .
  • Up to 30% business travel (domestic and international).
  • AIAG Core tools working knowledge (APQP, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, MSA, Control Plan).
  • Exhibit a high-level of self-motivation, sense of urgency and comfortable making recommendations across broad teams.
  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to construct and present information to a wide range of audiences internally and externally and to handle conflict properly.
  • To be comfortable in demanding accountability from peers when needed, be open to receiving constructive feedback and react to getting better.
  • Familiarity with reading/Interpreting Engineering drawings and understanding GD&T, CAD software.
  • Experience with ISO 9001.
Preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other technical discipline.
  • ASQ Certified CQE.
  • Structured problem-solving training/certification (Lean/Six Sigma training, Green or Black Belt, Red X/Shainin).
  • Formal training/certification in AIAG Core Tools.
  • Formal Auditor training/certification.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $85,000-$117,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
