Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) seeks a Supplier Quality Engineer in Acton, MA. You will develop and implement quality assurance programs for major projects and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Responsibilities include supplier risk analysis, supplier assessments, review of compliance documentation, management of SCARs, and driving corrective actions with suppliers and internal teams. Requires a engineering degree and 5+ years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze complex quality issues and present solutions.

Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

The Supplier Quality Engineer develops, documents and directs the implementation and evaluation of quality assurance programs and systems on one or more large projects. Provides expertise and guidance in interpreting national and international quality standards and government regulations. Consults with engineering and manufacturing to ensure quality standards are in place. Works on highly complex and diverse problems where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of various factors.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Member of Supplier Risk Management team. Perform risk analysis of assigned suppliers and identify potential problems and work with supplier to put in place risk mitigation plans.
  • Performs supplier assessments. The assessments will be at supplier onboarding or part of routine supplier QA assessments program.
  • Reviews and approves product compliance documentation that is generated by the seller and validates that all requirements specified in the order have been satisfied.
  • Validates with assigned suppliers that all procurement quality requirements are met.
  • Manages SCAR process as necessary to ensure that containment, root cause, and corrections are adequate and effective to eliminate the non-conformance.
  • Identifies and recommends design or manufacturing changes and enhancements.
  • Determines technical objectives for quality assurance as well as approaches to completing projects.
  • Creates or recommends design, dimensional or manufacturing process changes to improve products and reduce costs.
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Participates in functional testing and/or inspection of equipment and systems.
  • Audits supplier’s quality management systems for deficiency identification and correction. Implements solutions to complex problems occurring internally and at vendor facilities.
  • May prepare statistical analysis reports, specifications and other technical documents.
  • Interprets and adapts quality standards and government regulations.
  • Acts as company contact with suppliers, customers and regulatory personnel to resolve quality issues. Delivers technical presentations.
  • Provides project direction to other staff members.
  • In some business units, resolves, communicates and tracks non-conformance, material rejection and corrective action reports and chairs material review board. May also perform internal company audits and conduct vendor qualification examinations.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related discipline and five or more years of related experience with a bachelor's degree or three or more years with a master's degree. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Must be able to apply a detailed understanding of inspection methods and have a comprehensive knowledge of computer operations and applications.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of concepts, techniques and methods in a particular field of specialization.
  • Must have the analytical ability required to develop creative solutions to complex quality issues and the skills required to present those solutions to internal and external contacts.
  • Must have excellent communication and leadership skills in order to interface effectively with suppliers, customers and regulatory personnel.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.

Job Type: Full-Time Salary

Salary range: 81,080 - 141,650
