Job summary

Northwestern-Michigan-College in Traverse City seeks a Welding Technology Lab Assistant to support all aspects of the Welding Technology Program, assist instructors in delivering instruction, and supervise student lab activities.

The role requires a High school diploma or GED, attention to detail and strong analytical skills, and hands-on experience with welding processes and weld shop equipment. Mechanical aptitude is essential; welding certification or coursework in research methods is a plus.

  • Other supportive duties as required by the instructors.

Qualifications
Required

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Mastery of or ability to learn software and computer skills including integration of multiple word processing programs, databases, spreadsheets, data analysis (e.g. SPSS, Snap) and presentation software
