Position: Supplemental Case Management (SCM) Caseworker

The SCM caseworker will address barriers to safety and wellness for especially vulnerable clients under ORR’s Preferred Communities program. Responsibilities include providing strengths-based, client-centered case management for clients with various health concerns, including single-headed refugee households, survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, older refugees, youth without guardians, refugees with health or psychological issues, unanticipated refugee arrivals, secondary migrants, and LGBTQ refugees. The role involves developing service plans, coordinating healthcare access, assisting with appointments, and providing orientation on health topics.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Case Management team to identify healthcare needs.
  • Assist clients in navigating healthcare systems, including scheduling and attending appointments.
  • Coordinate health plan selection and advocate for clients.
  • Develop and distribute healthcare guides tailored to clients.
  • Assist clients in selecting healthcare specialists and scheduling initial appointments.
  • Conduct outreach to healthcare providers and social services.
  • Provide health education and support to clients, including practicing healthcare navigation skills.
  • Respond to health crises with supervisor guidance.
  • Assist in developing Self-Sufficiency plans and provide coaching.
  • Maintain documentation in client files and IRC’s database, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
  • Attend trainings and meetings, and potentially train volunteers and interns.
  • Follow all policies and protocols, participate actively in team activities, and implement training content.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Working Relationships:

  • Reports to: Case Worker Coordinator
  • Supervises: Interns and volunteers
  • Internal contacts include IRC program teams and HQ SCM; external contacts include healthcare and social service providers.

Job Requirements:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in health access, navigation, public health, social work, or case management.
  • Lived refugee or immigrant experience preferred; experience working with refugees/immigrants or cross-cultural experience accepted.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant case management experience.
  • Strong relationship-building, diplomacy, and networking skills.
  • Effective communication in a multicultural environment.
  • Self-starter with problem-solving skills, ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Professional proficiency in English; proficiency in Dari and/or Pashto preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital tools.
  • Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work remotely with reliable internet.
  • Commitment to anti-racism and continuous learning.

Working Environment:

  • Standard office environment with flexible remote work options.
  • Occasional weekend or evening work may be required.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply for US-based candidates, based on market, job type, equity, and experience. Exact offers depend on location and individual qualifications.
