Job description

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the management all Veteran Transportation Services and program activities, including patient transport, Special Mode Travel (SMT), mileage reimbursement claims, transportation contracts, 911 ambulance claims, inter-facility transfers, and common carrier transportation. The position assists in oversight and budgeting activities, ensuring processes comply with regulatory guidance, while assuring program effectiveness.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-7) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Supervisory Transportation Assistant GS-8. Specialized experience includes managing a transportation program operation; overseeing transportation staff; developing, adapting and implementing policies and plans to support transportation services; assessing transportation productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of program operations; performing workload forecasting; dispatching and routing drivers; analyzing and resolving problems; and communicating with a wide range of individuals. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title; duties; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. Your qualifications will be evaluated based on your application materials (e.g., resume, supporting documents), your responses on the application questionnaire, and your responses to all assessments required for this position. You will be assessed on the following Competencies for this position: Conflict Management Influencing/Negotiating Manages Resources Partnering Planning and Evaluating Supervisory Situational Judgment Test. Applicants will be required to complete a Supervisory Situational Judgment Test (SSJT) as part of the assessment process for this position. The SSJT evaluates judgment and decision‑making skills that align with relevant competencies, organizational values, and best practices. Assessment results may be used as part of the evaluation, ranking and referral process. This is not a timed test, however, the assessment is expected to take approximately 45 minutes or less to complete. The assessment for this application does not include a cut score for a minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. However, you must answer each item in the assessment. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part‑time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Requirements: The majority of work is performed in an office setting which adequate light, heat and ventilation. Work is mostly sedentary, but requires some bending, walking, standing, lifting and carrying of light items such as reports to various areas of the Medical Center. Working at the computer for long periods of time and accessing information from the various computer systems is necessary. Typical office setting is subject to noise caused by multiple visits by staff, equipment and telephone interruptions when performing various functions on a daily basis. The work requires no special physical demands. Travel will be required on a periodic basis.
