Job summary

Overview/Purpose

The Bus Supervisory Assistant is directly responsible for the supervision, safety, and well-being of students while being transported to and from school and school-related activities. The Bus Supervisory Assistant works collaboratively with the bus driver, parents/guardians, school staff, and special services personnel to ensure students are transported safely and appropriately.

Duties/Responsibilities [or Essential Functions]
  • Supervise students by enforcing safety regulations while riding the bus.
  • Assist in properly securing wheelchairs.
  • Properly fasten in seats when required.
  • See that each child is seated and stays seated.
  • Other safety regulations.
  • Help load and unload students requiring assistance, including wheelchair students.
  • Work cooperatively with parents.
  • Assist with the management of children with special health problems, e.g., seizures.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor of Transportation and the Director of Special Services.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Be at least eighteen years of age
  • Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent

Benefits: This position is not eligible for medical or retirement benefits.

Reports directly to the Transportation Supervisor

As required by RCW 28A.400.303, school district employees are required to complete a Washington State Patrol (WSP) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check. Newly hired employees are responsible for the completion of the background check prior to hire.
