TITLE: Special Education 1:1 Paraeducator Bus Duty

LOCATION: Evergreen High School

REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Transportation Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Elementary

Hours / Work Times

1.28 Hours Per Day (8:13 a.m. - 8:45 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

1.28 Hours Per Day on Early Release Days (8:13 a.m. - 8:45 p.m. and 1:50 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.)

190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 08/27/26.

Position Duration: Permanent

Classification Group: Paraeducators Class II

Salary Placement: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the classification salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service of similar occupational experience may receive experience credit towards salary step placement.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, the bus assistant for the Special Education students is responsible for riding on the bus and assisting the bus driver whenever necessary on the regular home-to-school run and during emergencies and/or evacuations. The bus assistant is also responsible for completing necessary paperwork.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Assist the bus driver in loading and unloading wheelchair-bound students on and off the bus on the regular home-to-school run and during emergencies and/or evacuations.
  • Assist the bus driver in establishing and maintaining a positive climate for students during transport.
  • Act quickly and be aware of surroundings so as to ensure the safety of the students being transported.
  • Complete daily individual student behavior management forms and turn in to supervisor.
  • Implement and monitor student behavioral management plans in accordance with the student's individualized educational program (IEP).
  • Attend conferences with administrators, parents, and students when necessary.

  • Most possess physical strength and ability to assist bus driver in loading and unloading wheelchair-bound students on and off the bus and to deal with potentially aggressive behavior of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
