UMC Health System seeks a Supervisor of Surgical Technicians to direct instrumentation, sterilization, and OR supplies in our operating rooms. This role leads Surgical Technicians, manages staffing, coaching, and engagement, and supports pre- and post-op activities, instrument testing, and scrub procedures to ensure safe, efficient patient care.

Strong leadership and communication with surgeons and OR staff are essential.

Competenze

• Leadership experience managing people and/or processes in a hospital setting.
• Graduate surgical technologist program completed.
• BLS certification obtained or within 30 days of hire.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred or required.

Learn more about why we are one of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas.Job SummaryThe Supervisor, Surgical Technicians directs and performs activities related to instrumentation, sterilization, and supplies utilized for patient care in the operating roomJob Specific ResponsibilitiesDaily assignments may include but are not limited to:• Assist RN in the operating room as directed• Serve as leader to Surgical Technicians participating in activities related to staffing, performance management, coaching, corrective actions, and employee engagement• Assist with pre and post op room support; this may include cleaning, testing equipment, scrub procedures, and assisting clinical staff inside of the operating room• Ensure adequate staff coverage on each shift• All other assigned duties related to surgical technologist roles and responsibilitiesEducation and Experience• High School Diploma or GED• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program• +2 years of leadership experience, leading people and/or processes, preferably in a hospital settingRequired Licensures/Certifications/Registrations• Basic Life Skills Certification (BLS); must obtain within 30 days of hire into the role• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) ADMINISTERED BY National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, NBSTSA, Certified TS-C, or CSASkills and Abilities• Knowledge of clinical standards and practices of surgical technology• Good listening skills to comprehend and quickly respond to the needs of the surgeon and surgical team• High degree of responsiveness to changing schedules and priorities throughout the dayInteraction with Other Departments and Other RelationshipsClose relationship with OR Materials Management, Instrument Room, OR Staff Development, nursing units, Sterile Processing Department, and various committees in the hospital as assigned.Physical CapabilitiesWork is demanding and requires ability to push, pull, and lift, up to 50 pounds. Requires lots of walking and extended periods of time standing and/or sitting. Effective communication with physicians and OR staff is critical. Near visual acuity required to work with documentation, instrument gauges, dials, and equipment indicatorsEnvironmental/Working ConditionsThis position is subject to varying indoor temperature changes.
