Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham is seeking a Supervisor for Sterile Processing to oversee daily activities and ensure compliance with local policies and regulatory standards.

You will manage decontamination, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments per AAMI standards, coordinate case cart preparation, drive quality assurance, and supervise staff development and performance.

Qualifications

• Licensed/certified as CSPDT with CBSPD or CRCST with HSPA is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily activities of sterile processing associates to ensure adherence to local policies, procedures and standards from regulatory agencies.
• Oversee decontamination, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments using AAMI standards.
• Oversee and complete preparation of all case carts as required by local inventory standards.
• Evaluate and document quality assurance program findings and coach team toward improved audit outcomes.

Job Description

Supervise daily activities of the sterile processing associates to ensure adherence to local policies, procedures, and guidelines/standards from regulatory agencies.

• Oversee decontamination, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments using Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards.
• Oversee and complete preparation of all case carts as required by following local inventory standards.
• Evaluate and document quality assurance program findings and coaches team toward improving regular audit outcomes. Focus on productivity standards and quality workflow metrics.
• Conduct hiring, training, directing, development and evaluation of staff.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Currently certified as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) with the Certification Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) with the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) required.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
