The Maryland Department of Transportation seeks a Supervisor for Service & Inspection in Light Rail. This role involves overseeing maintenance staff, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards. The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is currently seeking candidates for the position of Supervisor, Service & inspection-Light Rail. The Supervisor, Services, and Inspection is the supervisory level of work responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive program for the inspection, testing, repair, and maintenance of rail vehicles. Employees supervise personnel performing tasks associated with all aspects of maintaining a rail car. The supervisor participates in budget preparation, is responsible for the financial accounting of labor and materials, and interfaces with training staff personnel to assist and support in training activities. Employees keep abreast of changes in transit equipment, systems, technology, and operations. Employees directly supervise technicians, A and B repairmen and other employees.
The Supervisor, Service and Inspection receive managerial supervision from the Superintendent, Rail Car Maintenance or other designated official. Supervisors may be required to work rotating shifts, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Supervisors are required to travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area, in all types of weather.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and mentor maintenance staff, including training, performance appraisals, scheduling, and leave management.
Manage budgets and ensure accountability for labor, parts, and procurement in coordination with internal departments and OEMs.
Plan and coordinate manpower coverage, yearly staffing picks, and assist in recruitment activities including job testing and interviews.
Monitor operational performance by reviewing maintenance schedules, conducting failure assessments, and improving policies and procedures.
Lead reporting and administrative functions, including generating regular performance reports and participating in quarterly budget reviews.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
