Job summary

HealthPartners seeks a nurse manager to supervise the daily operation of a designated medical unit, ensuring goals are met through planning, implementing, and directing programs and staff. Applies a systematic nursing process per Nurse Practice Act and Park Nicollet policy.

Requires RN licensure and a nursing degree; one year supervisory experience or three years non-supervisory experience; strong leadership and computer skills essential for success in a busy health care setting.

Qualifications

  • Must have nursing degree (AD/Diploma/Bachelor) and an active RN license with BLS provider status.
  • Minimum of one year supervisory experience or three years non-supervisory nursing experience.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to oversee operations and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews, hires, trains, and disciplines unit staff.
  • Directs and supervises daily operation of the designated unit.
  • Develops and implements new services, programs, procedures, systems, and materials for the unit.
  • Coordinates staff orientation and development programs.
  • Manages staffing schedules to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Assists in salary administration planning and budgeting for the unit.
  • Maintains emergency response readiness and CPR competency.
  • May perform direct patient care as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment, planning, nursing diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, recognized professional standards and Park Nicollet policy.

Job Description

Provides supervision of the daily operation of a single designated medical unit or two similar designated medical units of limited size requiring registered nursing expertise, assuring goals and objectives are obtained through the planning, implementing, and directing of programs, procedures, systems, and support personnel. Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment, planning, nursing diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, recognized professional standards and Park Nicollet policy.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate from a course of study in nursing resulting in an associate degree, diploma or baccalaureate degree and at least one year related supervisory or three years related non-supervisory experience required.

Licensure / Registration / Certification

Current state Registered Nursing License required and BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Proven leadership skills in organizing, planning, and directing an operation and its staff.
  • Intermediate level computer/keyboarding skills required, including but not limited to email, word processing, spreadsheets, and calendar.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and ensure safety of patients.
  • Proven proficiency in the operation of the following: Personal Computer, Telephone, Fax Machine, Photocopier, Printer, Defibrillator, Various Health Testing Devices (specific to the area of specialty), Blood Drawing or Injection Devices, Thermometer, and Blood Pressure Equipment.
Essential Duties
  • (15%) - Interviews, hires, evaluates, coaches and disciplines support personnel for designated unit.
  • (20%) - Directs and supervises the daily operation of the designated unit.
  • (25%) - Assists in the development and implementation of new services, programs, procedures, systems, and materials for designated unit.
  • (5%) - Coordinates employee’s orientation and staff development programs.
  • (<5%) - Administers staffing schedules for the designated unit ensuring appropriate coverage is maintained using regular and float personnel.
  • (<5%) - Assists in the development of salary administration plans and budgets for designated unit.
  • (<5%) - Develops and maintains the designated medical unit's emergency response readiness, ensuring appropriate emergency action plans, operable equipment and supplies are always available. Ensures currency of staff CPR skills training.
  • (15%) - May perform direct patient care activities.
  • (<5%) - Performs other functions as assigned.
Additional Expectations
  • Complies with safety instructions, observe safe work practices, provides input on safety issues, and promotes a safe work environment.
  • Maintains regular and timely attendance.
  • Protects confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates participation in and support of the organization's Corporate Integrity Program by participating in compliance-related education and training and complying with the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Timely completion of all mandatory education and organizational requirements (i.e., licensure/certification, Employee Health and Wellness requirements, annual training, etc.).
Leadership Responsibility

Directly supervises all support staff including registered nurses assigned to designated unit (normally not exceeding 30 employees). The staff supervised generally have related occupational backgrounds and knowledge or are similarly focused.
