Job summary

Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston seeks a Lead Respiratory Therapist to manage Adult Cardiopulmonary services, oversee staff, and ensure quality patient care across the continuum.

You will guide diagnostic testing, ABG analysis, and operation of ventilators, working with a multidisciplinary team to support acutely ill patients from newborns to adults. The role requires state license and NBRC credentials, with NICU experience and ongoing education emphasized.

Qualifications

• Current State Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required.
• Current NBRC-registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or obtained within 3 months of hire.
• BLS certified from the AHA or ARC on hire and maintain current.
• ACLS certification from the AHA or ARC on hire and maintain current.
• PALS certification from the AHA or ARC on hire and maintain current or within 60 days of hire.
• NRP certificate on hire and maintain current.
• Associate or Bachelor degree preferred.
• Five years of acute or subacute respiratory care experience required.
• At least one year of NICU experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct the Adult Cardiopulmonary services team and equipment.
• Promote healing of acutely ill patients with cardiac or pulmonary issues.
• Ensure efficient operation of the Cardiopulmonary Services Department.
• Provide diagnostic testing and arterial blood gas analysis.
• Operate ventilators and related respiratory equipment; oversee ABG QC.
• Treat patients from newborn to older adults and assist daily operations as needed.

Responsibilities

Leads and directs the technical personnel, activities, and equipment of the Adult Cardiopulmonary services. Promotes healing of acutely ill patients whose cardiac or pulmonary systems have been compromised through illness or injury through the provision of respiratory care, diagnostic testing, providing for the psycho-social needs of the patient, and patient education. Encourages and enhances the progression and efficient operation of the Cardiopulmonary Services Department. Treats patients from newborn, pediatrics, adolescents, young, middle, and older adults. When requested, assists day-to-day operations of the Cardiopulmonary Department, referring out-of-the –ordinary issues to the Manager and/or Medical Director, as appropriate. Provides diagnostic testing to the patient to help optimize the total care given. Performs arterial punctures for blood gas analysis; knowledge in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and quality control of ABG analyzers. Abilities to use mechanical ventilators, bi-level ventilation equipment, peak flow meters, ability to perform respiratory assessment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current State Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License required.2. Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or obtained within three (3) months of hire.3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certified from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) upon hire and maintain current.4. Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from the AHA or ARC certification upon hire and maintain current.5. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the AHA certification upon hire and maintain current or obtained within 60 days of hire.

6. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificate upon hire and maintain current.

7. Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science degree preferred.

8. Five (5) years of acute or subacute respiratory care experience as respiratory care practitioner required.9. At least one (1) year of experience in NICU preferred.

Pay Transparency

Central Maine Medical Center offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $36.75 to $49.46 per hour. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
