Job Summary:
The supervisor of Quality & Education for CDI and inpatient coding oversees coding and documentation education functions, including CDI and hospital billing inpatient coding, to ensure timely and accurate documentation that reflects severity of illness and patient condition. This role supports operational goals under the guidance of Coding Quality and Support leadership, focusing on inpatient coding and CDI quality reviews, provider support, and cross-functional collaboration. Accurate documentation is vital for patient safety, outcomes, research, hospital reimbursement, and quality metrics. The supervisor analyzes documentation trends, develops improvement plans, and ensures accurate DRG assignment and risk adjustment, working with IT and clinical teams to enhance documentation templates and alerts. The role requires comprehensive knowledge of EHR, audit solutions, and coding practices.

Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise a team supporting inpatient/outpatient CDI and coding, providing education and ensuring compliance.
- Develop and evaluate education plans based on data analysis, compliance risks, and documentation trends.
- Participate in staff selection, training, evaluation, and professional development.
- Lead teams to achieve performance outcomes, maintaining current industry knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and payer requirements, updating processes as needed.
- Coordinate and prioritize educational workflows to enhance specificity and efficiency, collaborating with CDI teams on queries and trends.
- Create standard work and onboarding processes.
- Review work for accuracy, monitor productivity and quality, and assign tasks accordingly.
- Maintain policies and procedures, prepare reports, and support organizational initiatives.
- Analyze charging practices and documentation to identify revenue opportunities and compliance issues.
- Collaborate with teams to develop queries and workflows based on trends.
- Support transition to value-based care models.
- Present data and strategies to stakeholders, recommend system and educational improvements.
- Evaluate team and process performance, publish benchmarks, and lead interdepartmental collaborations.
- Work with vendors, represent the organization at industry forums, and serve as a resource on revenue cycle and regulatory issues.
Required Qualifications
- A.A./A.S. in nursing, HIM, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 2 years in healthcare reimbursement, financial management, or coding
- 3 years of relevant business experience
- Knowledge of revenue cycle operations, regulatory requirements, and computer systems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management skills
- Licenses or certifications such as RN, CCDS, CDIP, RHIA, or RHIT
