Job summary

Silgan Containers in Houston seeks a hands-on supervisor to lead the blow molding set-up and molding operations. You will ensure timely start-ups, coordinate with management and shift teams, and push continuous improvements on tooling, safety, and production efficiency.

The role requires 3–5 years in blow molding, strong tooling knowledge, and a proven safety and quality track record. You will train staff and collaborate with PDEs on new projects, maintaining daily change logs and ensuring

• Requires: High School Diploma or GED and ability to read, write and speak English.
• 3-5 years in a blow molding facility, preferably with shuttle equipment.
• Knowledge of blow molding tooling and components.
• Ability to demonstrate high quality and output while meeting schedules.

Responsibilities

• Promote and execute safe work practices across the Houston facility.
• Manage the set-up department ensuring timely and accurate set ups.
• Identify mold issues and coordinate changes with mold maker to optimize tooling.
• Collaborate with plant PDE for engineering approval on new tooling/mold.
• Maintain daily change logs and report to plant manager monthly.
• Work with shift supervisors, operators and QA to keep production running smoothly.
• Assist customer service and manufacturing manager to ensure all job components are ready.
• Monitor performance and attendance of direct reports and enforce safety practices.

Job description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Manage direct reports to ensure plant start-ups and mold changes are completed timely and according to schedule. Work closely with management team and shift supervisor to control labor and ensure the production lines are running smoothly and efficiently. Identify continuous improvement opportunities within the plant. Daily communication with the management team and hourly employees to ensure best utilization of time, production schedule and cost.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for promoting and executing safe work practices throughout the Houston facility.
• Manage the set-up department, ensuring all set ups are completed timely and accurate.
• Identify mold issues and correct them by communicating, recommending changes to mold maker to optimize process/changes on tooling size(s).
• Work with plant PDE to approve engineering on new tooling /mold.
• Maintain listing of daily changes and report to plant manager at month’s end.
• Work closely with shift supervisors, operators and quality personnel, to ensure the production floor is running smoothly and efficiently.
• Work closely with PDE’S on new projects
• Manage spare parts inventory
• Train new employees
• Work closely with customer service and manufacturing manager on upcoming jobs and ensuring all components are here for the job.
• Evaluate jobs that do not run to standard and work with appropriate personnel to bring them to standard.
• Provide support to the plant during off hours as needed.
• Monitor performance and attendance on direct reports and administer accordingly.
• Promote plant wide safety practices.

EDUCATION

• Required: High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

EXPERIENCE

• Required: Good safety, attendance and job performance record. 3-5 years in a blow molding facility, preferably working with shuttle equipment:
• Working knowledge of blow molding tooling and components.
• Ability to demonstrate high amount of quality and quantity of work.
• Knowledge of plant procedures and equipment use.
• Extent, to which team member identifies and corrects errors, initiates work activities, assumes responsibility, and anticipates needs.
• Extent, to which team member completes work assignments, meets schedules, and follows established policies and procedures.

SKILLS

Required:

• Excellent knowledge of Bekum, Fischer or Kautex blow molders
• Understanding blow molding methods and logic
• Basic electrical knowledge
• Proficient in hydraulic systems
• Proficient in pneumatic systems
• Ability to assess job tasks, and prioritize those tasks when conditions change.
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to communicate and train effectively.
• Ability to troubleshoot blow molding processing issues and effectively resolve them.
• Forklift License

Preferred:

• Ability to read, write and communicate fluently in English.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Qualified blow molding setup

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must be dependable.
• Must have good attendance record.
• Must be willing to work after hours when needed.
