Position Overview
Title: Supervisor Physical Security Operations Center
Company: Tampa Electric Company
State and City: Bearss Operations Center (1006 E Bearss Avenue, Lutz, FL 33549)
Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work
The Supervisor of the Physical Security Operations Center (PSOC) manages daily operations of the PSOC, ensuring effective monitoring of access control systems, CCTV surveillance, dispatch coordination, and emergency communications across critical energy infrastructure sites. The role supervises Physical Security Operators, maintains operational readiness, and ensures compliance with security protocols and regulatory standards.
Storm Duty Requirements
- Team members are required to participate in response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our customers.
- Responding to storms is a condition of employment.
- Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Supervision and Leadership: Oversee a team across multiple shifts, conduct shift briefings, assign duties, manage scheduling, provide coaching and performance evaluations.
- Operational Oversight: Ensure proper functioning of all security systems; monitor operator activities; review and approve incident reports and dispatch logs.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements; maintain accurate records of certifications, training and shift activities; support audits and inspections.
- Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs on system use, emergency protocols and communication standards; promote cross‑training.
- Emergency Response Coordination: Serve as escalation point for emergency situations; coordinate with internal security teams, emergency responders and external agencies.
- System Management and Troubleshooting: Consult with Physical Security Unit, Information Technology teams and vendors; conduct routine audits and tests; recommend upgrades to improve performance and coverage.
Licenses / Certifications
- Required: Basic instructor‑led 40‑hour telecommunicator course, CPR/First Aid/AED certification, and a TWIC clearance within 3 months of employment.
- Preferred: Formal, basic instructor‑led 40‑hour telecommunicator course or working knowledge of APCO ANS 3.103.2.2015 and APCO ANS 3.104.2-2017.
Supervisory Experience
- Required: 2 years of team leadership, providing direction and guidance to others.
Education
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, communications, or related field.
Experience
- Required: 5 years in law enforcement, security, military, public safety communications, or communications within the physical security industry.
- Preferred: Experience in public safety or private security communications in the critical infrastructure protection and energy sector; knowledge of NERC physical security standards.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Required: Strong situational awareness and diligence; ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure; excellent communication and people skills; familiarity with security technology (CCTV, access control systems, radios).
- Preferred: Knowledge of NERC physical security standards.
