Dartmouth Health Hampstead Hospital seeks a Pharmacist in Charge to supervise pharmacists and technicians, ensure compliance, and oversee daily operations. The role includes staff hiring, training, scheduling, and policy development to maintain safe, effective medication use.

The incumbent will interpret physician orders, manage medication profiles, and provide clinical consultations. Requires NH Pharmacist licensure, supervisory experience, and strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and 3 years of Pharmacist experience.
• ACPE-accredited school of Pharmacy with 3 years of health care system experience (1 year supervisory).
• Ability to work independently and set priorities; strong decision-making.
• Effective problem solving and change management abilities; strong communication skills.

Overview

Supervises staff and work load in assigned, specialized shop/section of the department to ensure a safe and efficient operation.

Responsibilities

• Supervises day-to-day activities of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians
• Act as pharmacist-in-charge in the absence of pharmacy managers
• Pharmacist in Charge: The pharmacist responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the operation of the pharmacy. This includes but is not limited to: managing staff, ensuring compliance to all applicable state and federal guidelines, and maintaining the inventory of all medications.
• Helps to hire, train and evaluate Pharmacy Department staff.
• Schedules staff and ensures appropriate staff coverage
• Assists in the development and administration of departmental policies and procedures
• May prepare and dispense medication orders per physician request by interpreting and evaluating medication orders and transcribe to computerized patient medication profiles. Maintain medication profiles.
• Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective medication therapies for Monitors medication therapy by assessment of:
• Therapeutic appropriateness of the regimen (e.g. indication for use, drug selection, dosage).
• Therapeutic duplication of the
• Appropriateness of the route and method of the regimen
• Patient compliance with the regimen.
• Medication/medication, medication/food, medication/laboratory test, and medication/disease interactions
• Clinical and laboratory data to evaluate the efficacy of therapy and to anticipate toxicity and adverse effects.
• Physical signs and clinical symptoms relevant to therapy.
• Reads, extracts, and interprets information in patient Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions.
• Sustains the formulary by minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols, P&T committee approved drug use criteria; and promoting rational drug therapy selection.
• Provides clinical consultation and clarification to Suggests appropriate, cost-e?ective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff.
• Provides accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff.
• Assists in discharge Counsels patient/families concerning proper drug administration, potential drug side effects and precautions, and discharge medication orders. Helps locate medication supplies not generally available.
• Documents all clinical activities and interventions.
• Participates in quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department.
• Resolves patient complaints and works with staff to ensure excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy 3 years' experience as a Pharmacist.
• Graduate of an ACPE accredited school of Pharmacy with 3 years of health care system experience (of which 1 must be pharmacy supervisory experience), or the equivalent required.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and possess the ability to set priorities and make critical decision.
• Effective problem solving, and change management abilities desired.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, as well as demonstrated interpersonal and team skills essential.

Required Licensure/Certifications

- Current unrestricted NH Pharmacist licensure.
