Job summary

Mid-America Transplant in Saint Louis, MO seeks an Organ Procurement Supervisor to lead clinical and administrative teams in maximizing donation while guiding ICU operations. You will supervise donor management, ensure regulatory compliance, and partner with educators and physicians to drive continuous improvement.

The role requires a BSN, RN with critical care experience, and 3+ years in an OPO including donor management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing and RN with critical care experience.
  • 3 years in Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) including Donor Management preferred.
  • Experience leading a team (charge nurse, supervisor, or manager).

Responsibilities

  • Workforce Management: identify training and development opportunities, conduct regular performance reviews, approve timesheets and expenses, build cross-department relationships, audit OPC performance.
  • Clinical Support: act as Organ Procurement Coordinator across referral, donor management, allocation and organ activity, support OPCs with donor care, address donor hospital concerns, collaborate with staff.
  • Administrative: ensure equipment and supplies, coordinate with CMO on donor research, identify continuous improvement in donor care compliance.

The Position

The Organ Procurement Supervisor is responsible for supporting the mission, vision and values to maximize donation while providing support and guidance for clinical staff. The Supervisor will contribute to departmental success through day-to-day support and oversight of donation activity and ICU operations while identifying opportunities for improvement in current practices.

What You’ll Do

Workforce Management

  • Collaborate with Educator, Organ Clinical to identify training and/or development opportunities that will assist the employee in achieving enhanced job performance and/or career objectives to include review of personal goals.
  • Regularly meet with all direct reports to review performance expectations and constructively coach and counsel for success to seek optimal employee performance.
  • Approve timesheets and expense reports
  • Conduct performance review in alignment with job expectations
  • Build support and relationships between departments to promote organizational success and growth
  • Conduct systematic audits of Organ Procurement Coordinator (OPC) performance against specific criteria and standards, provides individual feedback to ensure procedure and policy adherence.

Clinical Support

  • Function as an Organ Procurement Coordinator handling all aspects of the role including Referral Management, Donor Management, Allocation and Import Organ Activity, Organ Procurement, and Ongoing Engagement.
  • Supports Organ Procurement Coordinators (OPC's) with direct donor care issues on complex cases.
  • Serves as staff's resource for Donor management (answer questions, provide guidance, perform all procedures, address issues/concerns).
  • Addresses surgeon questions and concerns and responds to donor hospital concerns/issues through real time onsite staff huddle, support, and guidance.
  • Collaborates with onsite staff and OWS LT team members during FPA opposition/rescinded consent through real time staff huddle, support, and guidance.

Administrative

  • Collaborates withother Supervisors and Director to ensure staff have needed working equipment and supplies to complete donor management.
  • Collaborates with Chief Medical and Research Officer (CMO) to ensure donor and organ research is being completed.
  • Assist with CMO with research documentation.
  • Identifies continuous performance improvement opportunities by monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of donor care in compliance with regulatory standards.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse with critical care experience required
  • 3 years in Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) including Donor Management preferred
  • Experience leading a team (charge nurse, supervisor, or manager) required
  • Skilled in managing ambiguity where many problems exist simultaneously and often compete for immediate attention.
  • Demonstrated capability and desire to make difficult and unpopular decisions regarding the pursuit of organ donation.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external contact, agile in adjusting communication style to the situation.
