Job summary

Reno County is seeking a Supervisor for Noxious Weed - Public Works to lead and train a crew in weed control, safety, and compliance with Kansas law. The role includes inspections, reporting to authorities, and coordinating chemical treatments and equipment use.

The successful candidate will manage operations on county roads, maintain data in our weed software, ensure proper licensing, and support public awareness initiatives and enforcement actions.

Qualifications

  • Requires GED or high school diploma.
  • Employee is responsible for obtaining and maintaining any certification and licensing requirements relative to the position.
  • Previous 2 years’ experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, train, and supervise a crew to provide weed control, consultation, recommendations, weed identification, and safe chemical usage.
  • Increase public awareness of noxious weeds through correspondence, treatment, and enforcement notices; enforce the Kansas Noxious Weed Law; perform inspections and report to State Board of Agriculture.
  • Maintain noxious weed data in software; sell chemicals to control and eradicate noxious weeds; complete reports and surveys for State Board of Agriculture.

Supervisor - Noxious Weed - Public Works

Job Purpose and Objectives:

Direct, train, and work with crew of skilled and semi-skilled workers to provide service, consultation, recommendations, weed identification, and safe chemical usage to promote the reduction of noxious weeds with proper chemical treatments. Increase public awareness of noxious weeds through correspondence, treatment, and enforcement notices, promote safe handling and application of pesticides, enforce the Kansas Noxious Weed Law, perform inspections, and treat weeds on county road right-of-way, complete reports and surveys for the State Board of Agriculture, sell chemicals to control and eradicate noxious weeds, maintain noxious weed data in the noxious weed software program, and other duties associated with Reno County Road & Bridge.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum level high school graduate or have an equivalent general educational development certificate (GED).

Certifications / Licenses:
  • Possess and maintain a valid Kansas Class B CDL.
  • Possess a 6 & 9-A category commercial applicator’s certificate from the State of Kansas.
