Job summary

Mesa County is seeking a Lead Technician to support the Noxious Weed Management program. You will help develop and implement weed control strategies, monitor infestations and map locations using ArcGIS-based tools, and coordinate field work with seasonal staff.

Responsibilities include applying herbicides, maintaining records, engaging with landowners, and supporting grant projects. The role requires a Colorado pesticide license or the ability to obtain one and strong safety awareness.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management or closely related field.
  • 18 months weed treatment field experience; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to use Arc GIS software and Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Identify noxious weed species and determine management plans.
  • Select, apply and monitor herbicides to infestations and rights-of-way.
  • Maintain mapping data; complete required documentation and grants reports.
  • Supervise seasonal employees; ensure safety and training compliance.
  • Engage landowners and citizens; participate in education events.
  • Assist with public information and grant-related data collection.
