Job summary

Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans is seeking a Line Supervisor to direct mutuel line functions and ensure accurate wagering transactions. You will oversee staff, maintain cash controls, and ensure compliance with racing regulations and company standards.

The role requires strong communication, a customer-service mindset, and the ability to operate in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. This is a full-time, on-site position at our New Orleans facility.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older.
• Able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission.
• Be a self-starter with minimum supervision.
• Work in a high-volume environment and maintain accuracy.
• Excellent verbal communication with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Direct mutuel line functions processing wagering transactions via totalizator terminals.
• Oversee and motivate mutuel line staff to meet individual and unit goals.
• Maintain a positive, collaborative work environment focused on service quality.
• Reconcile daily cash handling and monitor cash flows at shift start/end.
• Ensure compliance with operational and regulatory requirements.
• Serve as front line liaison for terminals and resolve issues.
• Educate customers and cashiers about offerings and promotions.
• Process deposits and withdrawals via TwinSpires as applicable.
• Performs other duties assigned.

We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.

JOB SUMMARY

The Line Supervisor position directs and supervises all mutuel line functions that process pari-mutuel wagering transactions into totalization system using Tote provided wagering terminals to satisfy State Racing Commission regulations, IRS regulations and Fair Grounds standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Directs and supervises all mutuel line functions that processes customer wagering transactions through a totalizator terminal and certifies accurate wagering transactions as prescribed by state racing commission regulations, IRS regulations and Fair Grounds’ standards.
• Oversee and motivates employees assigned to mutuel line to achieve individual goals and collectively business unit goals.
• Creates and maintains a working environment conductive to positive morale, quality, creativity and teamwork.
• Accounts for all division loads, cashier and self-service monies, vouchers, coupons, etc. used in performing job duties of mutuel line and reconciling daily cash handling activities to confirm accuracy of cash received at beginning of shift and cash returned at end of shift.
• Ensure compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements.
• Serves as front line liaison in respect to manned and self-service totalizator terminals and systems to identify, examine and resolve issues.
• Disseminates accurate and real-time information to customers and cashiers regarding the Fair Grounds’ offerings and escalates request for information to superiors when needed. Educates customers and cashiers about the offerings.
• Maintains positive relations with customers and provides service satisfactory to customer and Fair Grounds requirements.
• Anticipates and responds to a wide variety of customer needs and request quickly and efficiently.
• Consults with customers to maintain goodwill and obtain satisfactory outcomes for wagering disputes. Escalate disputes with superiors when appropriate.
• Maintains confidentiality of customer personal and account information when such is required to process wagering or payment transaction.
• Assists in monitoring and enforcing access to restricted and reserved areas in the facility.
• Guides customers in earning and redeeming Twin Spires player reward points and informs customers of player reward program promotions.
• Sells forms and programs when required and maintains bank for sales.
• Processes TwinSpires.com deposits and withdrawals.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be 21 years or older. Must be able to obtain a Racing License from the Louisiana Racing Commission.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must have a high school dipolma and have pari-mutuel industry and cash handling experience are desirable but not necessary. Ability to work in a high-volume environment. Excellent verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. Be a self-starter and work with minimum supervision. Ability to work overtime and flexible hours as required including nights, weekends and holidays.

Constant wrist motion, sit, hear and eye/hand coordination; Frequently speak, read, write, stand, walk, bend and stoop; Occasionally lift, carry, push and pull.
