Job summary

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) seeks a skilled supervisor to oversee contracted maintenance and repair services within the Division of Streets & Roads. You will plan, schedule, inspect, and verify work related to street maintenance, landscaping, debris removal, and right-of-way upkeep.

Requirements include a high school diploma, four years of related experience, and the ability to obtain a Kentucky CDL‑Class B with Endorsement N within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of contractors performing maintenance services such as mowing, tree trimming, litter control, sidewalk repairs, concrete work, or other street-related tasks.
  • Inspect work sites to ensure compliance with contract terms, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Monitor contractor performance and adherence to schedules; document and report any deficiencies or issues requiring corrective action.
  • Serve as a liaison between the city and contracted vendors, resolving disputes and communicating expectations.
  • Prepare and manage work orders, service requests, and maintenance logs for contracted projects; ensure contractor compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assist with procurement processes by developing scopes of work, obtaining quotes, and reviewing contractor bids.
  • Track budgets and expenditures related to maintenance contracts and report progress to management.
  • May supervise city personnel supporting or inspecting contracted work.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

Job description

  • This position is eligible for overtime (non-exempt), if applicable.
  • Pay Grade 518
  • This position is eligible for Hazardous Duty Supplemental Pay ($90/month, $0.52c/hour) and CDL pay ($1.08/hour) once obtained within the required first six months of employment.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this classification is to oversee and coordinate the contracted maintenance and repair services within the Division of Streets & Roads by planning, scheduling, inspecting, and verifying completion of work related to street maintenance, landscaping, debris removal, right-of-way upkeep, and other outsourced services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

All Certifications and licenses must be maintained as a condition of employment.

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must obtain a Valid Kentucky Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B with Endorsement N - and a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner's Certificate within the six-month probationary period
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be accessible for on-call duty and be able to work weekends and holidays as assigned and during emergencies.
  • All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16.
  • Positions are required to perform snow removal duties during weather emergencies.
