Job summary

City of Paducah seeks a full-time laborer to support public works, maintaining right-of-ways and properties. You will safely operate a range of motorized handheld equipment and various heavy trucks and equipment, and assist with street and sewer maintenance.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of general labor experience; must possess a Kentucky Class A CDL permit and obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months. The role includes on-call duty and full benefits.

• Valid Kentucky Class A CDL permit required; must obtain Class A CDL within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of motorized equipment, including dump trucks, pump trucks, rollers, street sweeper, and other equipment.
• Maintain and repair streets/alleys and right-of-way, perform debris removal and tree/brush maintenance.
• Perform sewer and storm drainage maintenance; snow removal operations; inspect vehicles and equipment; report major issues to Fleet Maintenance.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled labor tasks to maintain public right-of-ways and properties; safely operates a variety of motorized handheld equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks; operates and drives various types of trucks and equipment; inspects and reports needed maintenance associated with daily equipment operations.

Illustrative Duties:

• Operates a variety of motorized equipment, including dump trucks, pump trucks, roller, street sweeper, and other motorized equipment.
• Maintains and repairs City streets and alleys through the use of applicable tools and techniques, including hot/cold potholes and street surface repairs.
• Maintains City right-of-way, clears weeds and brush, chips wood, prunes trees, and picks up and removes tree limbs, leaves, and other debris.
• Performs tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of storm sewers, inlets, and catch basins.
• Operates snowplow, saltboxes, and other related snow removal equipment.
• Inspects vehicles & equipment and makes minor repairs and adjustments as needed.
• Report any major problems and/or malfunctions to Fleet Maintenance.
• Performs moderate to heavy manual and skilled duties as necessary.
• The on-call response is required.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Pay Range - $19.46 - $24.33 Hourly (Pay is based on relevant experience and qualifications)

Requirements

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience as a general laborer and/or combination of training and experience which evidences the ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled labor tasks; the ability to perform repetitive moderate to heavy manual labor; must possess a valid permit for a Kentucky Class A Commercial Driver’s license and obtain a Class “A” CDL license within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of safe unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor practices; general techniques and methods used in street and right-of-way maintenance. Possesses skills and abilities for the proper and safe operation of all hand-held motorized equipment. Possess skills and abilities to safely operate and drive various heavy trucks, including dump trucks, pump trucks, rollers, street sweepers, and various other motorized equipment owned and operated by the City.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to tolerate various indoor and outdoor temperatures and climates. Be able to perform moderate to heavy repetitive physical labor for an extended period. Must maintain the physical requirements to successfully pass the Essential Job Function test as required for this position
