Job summary

Piedmont Atlanta Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee daily operations of the Blood Bank laboratory section and related areas. The role includes supervising procedures, ensuring quality control, specimen collection, and maintenance of analyzers in accordance with standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or closely related field required.
• Other bachelor's degrees accepted if meet certifying agency requirements; may be waived for pre-bachelor ASCP/HHS credentials.
• Three years of clinical experience, preferably in an acute care hospital; supervisory experience preferred.
• Certification in medical technology by ASCP/AMT/AAB required; AAB provisional not accepted.

Responsibilities

The supervisor will oversee that the maintenance of the analyzers, quality control, collection of specimens, maintaining of supplies in accordance with standards of practice and established policy and procedure. The supervisor will provide recommendations and action plans for the improvement of system processes in their section and/or area.

Qualifications:

Education

• Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university in Medical Technology or a closely related field is Required
• Other bachelor's degrees will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school and science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency. Bachelor's degree may be waived for a medical technologist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirements by ASCP and a HEW/HSS technologist certified by Health and Human Services.

Work Experience

• 3 years of clinical experience preferably in an acute care hospital setting. Required
• Demonstrated clinical competency in the specialty area applying for Required

Licenses and Certifications

• Management of Clinical Laboratory only: Certification in medical technology; certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) .
