The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of the laboratory on a day-to-day basis, per shift, to ensure the highest quality of patient care while meeting regulatory and compliance requirements. The individual oversees staff performance, interactions, and quality of work. He/she is also responsible for managing clinical operations, ensuring instrumentation and testing run smoothly without issues or errors. The Laboratory Supervisor must enforce compliance with regulatory agencies' requirements. The individual has staff reporting directly to him/her and holds human resource responsibilities. The Laboratory Supervisor is expected to address and resolve issues, act as a liaison between the laboratory and clinical staff (physicians, nursing, etc.), and maintain communication with other supervisors, the laboratory manager, site director, administration, and others as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily, per-shift operations of the Laboratory in line with departmental goals
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and review quality control data
• Enforce safety policies and procedures
• Manage human resources: recruit, discipline, orient, train, evaluate staff, and schedule as needed
• Promote a respectful work environment according to Montefiore standards
• Investigate and resolve issues, problems, and complaints from staff and management
• Manage materials to ensure reagent and supply availability
• Perform other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree required
• At least 6 years of bench experience as a CLT (or 4 years with a Master's degree in Science or Arts), per NYS DOE
• NYS DOE Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required; ASCP registration or equivalent desirable
• Knowledge of laboratory and hospital information systems, automated and laboratory equipment required
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and hospital policies
• Excellent communication skills and ability to manage stressful situations
This position is located in the Rapid Response Lab at the Wakefield campus. Hours are 4:00 pm – 12:30 am, Monday through Friday.
