Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced Operations Leader for a fully onsite role at our West Chester, OH facility. The position supports 2nd shift staffing, supervision of department staff, and coordination of daily workflows to meet client needs.

You will develop training, manage KPIs, and ensure quality and safety standards across the team. The role requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent, 1+ year of leadership, and the ability to work evenings Tuesday–Saturday.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification.
• 0-5 years of experience in similar roles with leadership responsibilities.
• At least 1 year of leadership responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Plan appropriate staffing levels to meet business and client needs.
• Serve as subject matter expert for the software used within the department.
• Manage team workload and KPIs to surface inefficiencies and provide solutions.
• Coordinate day-to-day activities of the department to ensure timely resolutions.
• Ensure all site deliverables meet client needs (kits, manuals, instruction sheets, etc).
• Review processes, training and SOPs to improve service and efficiency; implement training for new hires.
• Contribute to development of user requirements for services improvements.
• Assist during sponsor audits.
• Manage staff including interviewing, hiring, performance management, and salary actions.

This is a fully onsite role based at our Global Central Laboratory in West Chester, OH . We welcome applicants from all locations within the US. Please note that relocation assistance is not provided for this position, and any relocation costs will be the responsibility of the candidate.

2nd Shift: Tuesday-Saturday from 2:30-11:00PM ET

What You’ll Do:

• Plan appropriate staffing levels to meet business and client needs.
• Serve as subject matter expert for the software used within the department.
• Manage team workload as needed and assist with key performance indicator Matrices to surface inefficiencies and assist in providing solutions.
• Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the department to ensure all issues are resolved in a timely manner.
• Ensure all aspects of site deliverables meet the client’s needs (kits, manuals, instruction sheets, etc).
• Review department processes, training and SOPs to improve service and efficiency within the department. Assess and implement new training for new hires and/or process changes.
• Contribute to the development of user requirements for improving and enhancing services.
• Actively assist during sponsor audits.
• Manage staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, behavioral and technical coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations. Approve courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations. Review and approve time records, expense reports, requests for leave, and overtime. Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
• Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0 to 5 years).
• 1+ year of leadership responsibility

In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to match the requirements of the role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Directly supervises individual contributors, administrative support and / or entry-level professionals.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

• Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day.
• Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
• Occasional mobility required.
• Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.
• Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.
• Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.
• Ability to communicate moderately complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
• Frequently interacting with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups.

• Work is performed in an office and/or a laboratory and/or a clinical environment with exposure to electrical equipment.
• Occasionally drives to site or client locations, occasionally travels within the United States.
• Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Rare exposure to skin and lung irritants, radiation, toxic materials and hazardous waste.
• Personal protective equipment is required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves.
• Exposure to fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures on rare occasions.
