Job summary

The Richardson School is seeking an Instructional Aide Supervisor to lead and supervise Instructional Aides, manage schedules, and oversee training and evaluation programs. You will work with the Day School Director and SES to ensure staffing meets the educational and behavioral needs of students.

Responsibilities include coordinating de-escalation training, ensuring timely re-certification, and maintaining required documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human service field is required with experience working with developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed children.
  • Wisconsin DPI substitute teaching license required within one month of hire and must be maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision for Instructional Aides (IAs) at the assigned site.
  • Manage IA scheduling and classroom assignments as students’ needs change.
  • Coordinate IA training, de-escalation, and intervention programs for staff.
  • Ensure documentation and reporting of significant student or staff activity per policy.

Overview

The Richardson School is now accepting applications for an Instructional Aide Supervisor. As a member of the management team, the Instructional Aide Supervisor is responsible for contributing to the safety of the students and the educational environment by providing supervision of the Instructional Aides, managing the intervention training and evaluation program for staff, overseeing investigations into the interventions, and identifying and recommending any follow-up action aimed at proactive preventative measures. The Richardson School provides a year-round school option for local districts to access for children with special needs. Typically, these children have been dually diagnosed with developmental or neurological disabilities and emotional, behavioral or mental health disorders. RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides leadership, direction and is a resource for all Instructional Aides (IAs) for assigned site. Responsible for preparing and managing IA schedule and classroom assignments adjusting as students’ needs and mix changes relative to new admissions, and those transitioning back to their district. Communicates with Day School Director, Lead Teacher/Special Education Supervisor (SES), classroom Teachers and other school staff as needed to facilitate aide staffing levels meet the changing educational, treatment and behavioral needs of the students. Informs necessary parties of any significant student or Aide activity having an impact on student supervision needs. Oversees and coordinates the School’s de-escalation and intervention training for all staff. Makes sure new hires receive the initial training prior to being asked or expected to participate; oversees process for all staff to complete annual re-certification training timely. Establishes and maintains a process for obtaining and filing documentation of such training. Functions as an Instructional Aide in times of high enrollment, absences in coverage and periods of high acuity. Performs all functions of the IA whether in the classroom or on an outing or at camp in order to provide a safe, supportive learning environment. Uses only School approved behavior management and behavior education techniques in interactions with students and fully cooperates with leadership in delivery of therapeutic interventions when these are deemed necessary. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships within and between all departments, school districts, other referral sources and individuals within the community. Functions within legal, licensing, School, and professional standards in maintaining a therapeutic and educational environment for students. Reports per policy any suspected student abuse, whether physical, sexual, or mental/psychological. May assist in related investigations and implementing outcomes as directed by Day School Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a human service field plus one year of experience working with developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed children in a residential or educational setting OR the equivalent in experience working with a similar population/role. Possesses upon hire or applies for within one (1) month of hire, a substitute teaching license with Wisconsin DPI and maintains same, not allowing it to lapse. Any lapse of greater than one (1) month may be subject to corrective action. Demonstrates good judgment and an ability to make quick decisions and solve problems. Ability to supervise/facilitate problem-solving in times of staff conflict. Remains calm under pressure and maintains self-composure/self-control in times of high stress or when others are excited.
