Job summary

The State University of New York at Buffalo invites applications for a Supervisor of the Infrastructure Design Team in the Network and Communication Services unit. This campus-based role includes mentoring staff, developing training plans, and overseeing voice and data infrastructure across UB campuses with the possibility of hybrid-work.

You will lead standardization efforts, manage projects, and coordinate with university constituencies to deliver reliable services while ensuring compliance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience OR master’s degree with 1 year of experience; equivalent combination considered.
• Two years of experience in managing a technical team.
• Must be able to travel between university campuses and active construction sites; transportation needs must be met.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States by their start date; SUNY Buffalo does not guarantee sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with university constituencies to meet needs and deliver consistent services.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and University regulations and policies, as well as industry best practices (CSI, NFPA, etc.).
• Identify risks and establish standards, particularly CSI Division 27, to manage those risks.
• Plan, assess risks, budget, and manage service lifecycles.
• Consult, project manage, and develop IT policies.
• Maintain inventories and recommend resources.
• Supervise personnel: Monitor workloads, communicate issues, and handle administrative tasks.
• Mentor and develop employees, schedule work, and maintain service coverage.
• Recruit, retain, and manage team performance and handle personnel issues.
• Provide technical advice and stay updated on current and emerging technologies.
• Develop project plans and lead project teams.
• Mentor and develop employees, enable training opportunities, and guide career development.

The Network and Communication Services ( NCS ) unit is searching for a Supervisor of the Infrastructure Design Team who will manage the team supporting the voice and data infrastructure at the University at Buffalo. As a Supervisor, it is expected that you will mentor and develop employees, including developing training plans, and ensuring your teams share skills and knowledge. As a leader, is it expected that you will understand the technical environment surrounding the voice and data infrastructure at the University. This is a campus-based position with the possibility of hybrid-work.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with university constituencies to meet needs and deliver consistent services
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and University regulations and policies, as well as industry best practices ( CSI , NFPA , etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of experience OR master’s degree with 1 year of experience; Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. This experience should encompass many technical aspects of network and communication services in a large environment with more than 1000 users.
• Two years of experience in managing a technical team
• This position requires local travel between each university campus and off-campus. This position will also have to visit active construction sites to view and audit in-progress voice and data installations. Must have the ability to demonstrate that the candidate can meet the transportation needs of this position.

• Six years of experience managing service delivery teams in a University or similar environment
• Demonstrated supervisory skills

• Occasionally must ascend or descend a ladder, use standard telecommunications tools/ equipment, and differentiate colors used for standard wire coding.
• The person in this position needs to occasionally move about to visit active construction sites.

Driving Requirements

Driving Requirements Driving is not a required duty for this position. Employees who choose to operate university vehicles for business purposes must be enrolled in the LENS program to verify a valid Class D driver’s license.
