Job summary

GSP in Lenexa, KS is hiring a Supervisor for the Sewing Department to lead a team of sewing machine operators in a high-volume production facility. You will oversee workflow, ensure on-time production, and coordinate with other departments to meet display deadlines.

You will operate commercial sewing machines, ensure product quality before packaging, train staff, and maintain safety and efficiency. Strong attention to detail and good English communication are required; bilingual is a plus.

GSP is now hiring a supervisor for the Sewing Department.Oversees team of Sewing Machine Operators who complete hanging signs and panels for a variety of retail displays using production sewing machines. Operates in a high-volume production facility. The Supervisor manages all activities related to the production processes, including but not limited to running equipment, maintaining Quality of product, packing, and other related duties. Supervisors are responsible for workflow management, quality, and success of jobs.We will teach you to run the machines!Duties and Responsibilities:Plan and organizes workflow to meet customer ship deadlinesSupervises and oversees production output of sewing teamCoordinates with other departments as needed on workflowManages/ensures that all work flowing through the team is accurate, efficient, and timely.Ensure quality of products before packaging and shippingAssembles panels and borders per established work instructions utilizing commercial sewing machines. This includes sewing borders to panel cloth, applying trims and using decorative seamsOperates sewing machines using foot lever and hand controlDetermines which seam style to use according to specifications on order/ticketAligns fabric, backing, aluminum stays, elastic, Velcro, follows seams, edges, or markingSews parts with various types of stitches such as vertical stitched OR straight stitchedTrims excess threads and edges of partsUses gauges to insure proper placement of stitches on each piece of fabricMeasures and cuts textiles accurately according to design specificationsHand repairs any weaknessesSorts, folds, and stacks fabrics, borders or panels as neededChanges needles and threads machines as neededPerforms quality of work inspections for all seams sewnPerforms all duties according to established safety and efficiency proceduresMaintains workstation in a neat, clean, and orderly fashionPerforms minor maintenance on machines as needed including re-threading and replacing of needles as necessaryRequirementsEducation and Experience:Preferred Prior experience in sewing/textile industry utilizing related machines preferred - we will teach the right candidateMinimum 2 years’ experience in production environment requiredOral and written communication skills required.Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:Ability to lead and manage production line workers, preferably in sewingAbility to plan sewing production workflow and staffingKnowledge of sewing methods procedures and practicesAbility to work in a team environment and communicate effectivelyAbility to prioritize, multi-task, manage time efficiently, and meet shifting deadlinesUncompromising attention to detailsAbility to sit or stand for 10+ hour periodsAbility to read, write, and understand simple instructions commonly placed on a production orderAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimalsAbility to review and assess quality of workPosition is highly repetitious and involves occasional moving of moderately heavy materials, up to 50lbsAbility to work overtime as mandated or required to? –Ability to develop creative solutions to client and internal problems and challengesAbility to contribute to building a strong and positive team spirit as well as align with GSP valuesMust be able to read, write and understand English.
