Job Overview
The primary responsibility of the Quality Assurance Supervisor is to provide leadership to FSQ personnel and ensure compliance with company food safety and quality standards for raw materials, processed products, and processing procedures.
Responsibilities
- Provide oversight to Quality Assurance personnel, including training, scheduling, attendance, and guidance for continuous improvement.
- Plan, coordinate, and follow up on corrective actions for internal audits, including GMP, foreign material (Glass, Brittle Plastic, Wood, and Ceramic), and Food Defense.
- Provide technical assistance to operations regarding process deviation reports and product specifications.
- Oversee management of retained product and investigate, as needed, to determine final disposition under the guidance of the Manager of Quality Assurance.
- Perform documentation reviews, HACCP verification activities (Pre-Shipment Review, Cook System Verifications in RTE plants, Direct Observations), and SSOP monitoring activities (pre-operational and operational).
- Assist with 3rd party and customer audits.
- Execute environmental monitoring programs, including weekly and monthly microbiological testing, and take appropriate actions to ensure compliance.
- Communicate deficiencies and continuous improvement opportunities to QA and Operations Management; support CAPA and process changes.
- Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Promote, adhere to, and be responsible for Food Safety and Quality.
- Ensure QA Leads and Technicians follow prescribed procedures to comply with regulatory, customer, and company requirements.
- Manage hourly staff regarding scheduling, PTO approval, coverage, and timecard review.
- Support the second shift FSQ team during shortages or outages, as needed.
- Manage pre-requisite programs for calibration, pest control, environmental monitoring, CCP monitoring, pre-operational inspection, and internal auditing.
- Support and attend audits (FDA, BRC, USDA, Customer).
- Support Customer Complaint investigations and learn to enter and track complaints using the Intelex system.
- Support Vendor Claim reporting processes.
- Ensure laboratory supply levels are maintained.
- Support foreign material investigations with cross-functional teams.
- Participate in the plant Food Safety Team and attend scheduled meetings.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, with 2-5 years of related experience in a USDA-regulated meat manufacturing facility and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.), HACCP/PC certification, and process control training preferred.
- Experience interacting with USDA FSIS onsite inspectors.
- Experience managing employees and providing leadership and mentorship.
- Proven skills in evaluating and implementing strategies to improve quality and profitability.
- Experience implementing and enforcing policies, programs, and procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments effectively.
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical and regulatory documents; capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedures; and presenting information clearly.
- Strong mathematical skills for data analysis and process evaluation.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software.
