Job summary

UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA is seeking a Supervisor for the Central Processing team. The role oversees daily CSP operations, ensuring instrument processing, sterilization, and distribution are completed accurately and efficiently.

The supervisor provides staff guidance, supports service improvements, mentors CSP staff, and maintains high standards of patient safety and quality. Full-time, Monday–Friday, 2:30 PM–11:00 PM, with a $5,000 sign-on bonus for eligible certified technicians.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience in central sterile processing.
• 2 years supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers, physicians and staff.
• Must complete 10 hours of continuing education annually.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily CSP operations and ensure instrument processing, cleaning, packaging, sterilization, and distribution are efficient and accurate.
• Supervise CSP staff and mentor team members.
• Promote patient safety and high-quality care in all CSP activities.
• Lead quality improvement efforts and share best practices with other units.
• Collaborate with managers to uphold CSP standards and reduce instrument errors.

Job Overview

The Supervisor coordinates daily operations within the Central Processing department and ensures all instrument and equipment processing - cleaning/decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution is completed efficiently and accurately. This role also provides supervision to staff and serves as a resource for resolving service issues and answering customer questions.

• 3 years of experience in central sterile processing.
• 2 years supervisory or team leader experience required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers, physicians, staff of other hospital departments, and outside contacts.
• Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.
• Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

• Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association.
