Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Breast Imaging Supervisor to oversee daily operations and ensure high-quality patient care in the Breast Imaging Department. The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of mammography experience, including 2 years in a supervisory role, and must hold the necessary Massachusetts licenses.

This full-time position offers a salary ranging from $39.90 to $57.93 per hour, along with generous benefits, including medical, dental, vision, and paid time off.

Qualifications

  • Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography and Mammography licenses.
  • Current ARRT certification in Radiography and Mammography.
  • Current BLS certification.

Job description

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Radiology Director, the Breast Imaging Supervisor provides technical, operational and administrative leadership to the department through interactions with Breast Imaging staff, Breast Clinic Staff and others as necessary. The primary duty is to supervise all aspects of day‑to‑day operations and to assist in improving and implementing workflows, policies and procedures in conjunction with the Radiology Director and Section Chief of Breast Imaging. Position: Supervisor – Breast Imaging. Department: Breast Care Center. Schedule: Full Time.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties
  • Monitor and maintain daily activities relating to the technical and operational aspects of the department, ensuring a high‑quality, efficient and customer‑focused Breast Imaging Department.
  • Lead employees in all Breast Imaging modalities for assigned shifts and ensure all supervised employees perform duties and follow policies and procedures.
  • Assist with interviews, recommend candidates for hiring, orient and evaluate staff through monitoring, counseling, discipline, collaboration and support.
  • Maintain all required documentation related to staff qualifications, licenses, registrations and continuing education.
  • Ensure accurate payroll activity and responsible for day‑to‑day staffing and allocation of technologists and other staff to departmental areas as appropriate for patient care, budget, staffing and hospital needs.
  • Monitor and adjust the breast imaging workflow to ensure operational efficiency and staff productivity; schedule and assign staff to designated areas as required.
  • Manage the department patient schedule, making modifications to ensure operational efficiency and staff productivity.
  • Assist in preparing for monthly staff meetings and monitoring performance and compliance with departmental procedures and policies.
  • Adhere to safety standards set forth by the Radiology department, BMC and regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Work closely with the Radiology Director to improve workflow, staffing, patient schedule, patient experience, department budgets, technologist training and initiatives.
  • Cooperate with members of the healthcare delivery team and staff to ensure efficient and effective care.
  • Perform all types of procedures required by department policy and the Radiology Director, providing service and care to patients of all ages.
  • Notify personnel when patients not regularly served (e.g., immobilized patients, men) are present and seek assistance from individuals specialized in such needs.
  • Prepare patients for exams, ensuring comfort and modesty at all times, set up equipment and use proper exposure factors.
  • Notify the Radiology Director of equipment problems and assist with service requests.
  • Follow all radiation safety procedures, complete annual compliance briefings or seminars, and make quality improvements to mammographic images as required.
  • Monitor patient conditions, facilitate nursing involvement or other assistance when necessary, and ensure timely completion of follow‑up studies.
  • Ensure proper billing and entry of supply codes in the RIS, communicate guidelines for charging, maintain a clean PACS database, and provide RIS training for new staff.
  • Maintain proper documentation for requisitions, procedures, hospital/department and insurance requirements, ICD‑10 coding, and patient demographics.
  • Train mammography and ultrasound technologists on resolving cases.
  • Handle patient complaints, perform service recovery and ensure satisfaction; handle urgent add‑on requests professionally.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information during staff discussions.
  • Communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, employees and other staff courteously and professionally.
  • Support Breast Imaging supply management.
  • Lead and maintain the quality assurance program as enacted by the FDA, in conjunction with the Radiology Director and Section Chief of Breast Imaging.
  • Assist in developing and participating in the department’s QA program to ensure standards are upheld.
Other Duties

Performs other duties as needed and must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience: Requires an Associate’s degree and 8 years of mammography experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Current Massachusetts DPH Radiologic Technologist Radiography (Full/General) license and Mammography license.
  • Current ARRT registered certification in Radiography with RT(R) designation and Mammography with RT(M) designation.
  • Current BLS certification.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interactions with patients, students and staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to adapt to change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Extensive knowledge of breast anatomy and pathology preferred.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Range: $39.90 – $57.93 per hour. Salary is based on education, experience, skills, certifications and other factors.
