Job summary

Maple Leaf Farms is seeking a hands-on supervisor for the Holding House operations on the 3rd shift. You will lead and supervise Holding House employees and truck drivers, manage daily assignments, and ensure safety, quality, and efficiency.

You will train staff on duck care, safety procedures, and company policies, monitor performance, and coordinate with Processing Plant management and USDA inspectors to uphold Duck Well-Being and biosecurity standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Holding House employees and drivers on assigned operations.

  • Monitor supplies and initiate reorders.
  • Communicate with Processing Plant management, USDA inspectors, and other departments.

Job description

  • Lead and supervise Holding House employees and truck drivers during assigned operations.
  • Coordinate daily employee assignments and work schedules to meet operational needs.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, safety, and adherence to established procedures.
  • Participate in hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluations, corrective action, and other employee-management responsibilities.
  • Train employees on proper duck care and handling, safety procedures, company policies, and operational expectations.
  • Ensure ducks are moved and handled safely in accordance with Duck Well-Being standards, including appropriate density and weather considerations.
  • Monitor daily operations for safety, quality, and efficiency concerns and take appropriate corrective action when issues arise.
  • Inspect and monitor facility systems and operating equipment and communicate maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure trucks, trailers, and other operating equipment are properly inspected, cleaned, and referred for maintenance when necessary.
  • Coordinate transportation equipment washing and other operational activities with Holding House management.
  • Conduct safety meetings, employee performance discussions, and other team communications.
  • Monitor essential supplies and initiate reorders as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with Processing Plant management, supervisors, USDA inspectors, maintenance personnel, drivers, and other departments.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety, Duck Well-Being, biosecurity, and operating procedures.
  • Perform other supervisory and operational duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

  • Ability to identify and resolve routine operational issues involving loading, unloading, equipment, and live-duck handling.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate tractors, Bobcats, trucks, and other farm or facility equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and related software.
  • Ability to read and understand English; bilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • Completion of LP Labor Grade I or equivalent experience.
  • Class A CDL with manual exemption preferred.
Physical & Work Environment

This is an active, hands-on supervisory position performed in a Live Production environment. The position requires prolonged walking and may involve frequent bending, twisting, lifting, climbing, unloading trucks and trailers, and washing equipment using industrial pressure-washing systems.

Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and safely handle live ducks weighing up to approximately 10 pounds .

The position works in varying weather conditions and may involve exposure to disinfectants, solvents, cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, wet conditions, and agricultural environments. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided by the company.

Weekend work may be required based on operational needs.
