Job summary

St. Tammany Parish Government seeks a Supervisor 1 for Line Maintenance/Line Repair to oversee direct reports and schedule in designated areas. You will supervise field projects, coordinate repairs, and ensure safety and compliance with regulations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, at least four years in water/sewer maintenance, and LDH certification if possible. A valid driver's license is required; this is a full-time on-site position with potential after-hours responsibilities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Supervise, coordinate events for water / wastewater system field projects.
• Investigate water and sewer leaks, coordinate repairs.
• Supervise and assist in the maintenance, construction, repair and installation of all water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Coordinate with Supervisor 3 and Warehouse Manager to keep necessary stock maintained for field operations and ensure proper inventory amounts for all required components to make line repairs.
• Jet out sewer lines and smoke test sewer as needed.
• Maintain files and documentation.
• Schedule and prioritize work orders based on customer needs and operational requirements.
• Conduct regular safety meetings and training to keep the team informed of new regulations and best practices.
• Assist other departments / utility crews as requested
• Know how to operate all necessary equipment
• Perform the above duties in a manner that conforms with, and tends to further compliance with all applicable regulating agencies
• This position is required to monitor after hours notifications/calls and ensure proper response
• Scheduling and reporting employees’ payroll time within the parish policy guideline
• Ensure that all required documentation is submitted and recorded
• Advise supervised employees of changes in policy
• Complete performance evaluations in a fair and equitable manner
• Meet and handle the public in a professional courteous manner and provide assistance within the guidelines established
• May be required to respond to after-hour calls or attend after hour meetings as requested by the Director
• May need to work additional hours as required during emergency situations and assign on-call personnel
• Regular, consistent attendance is required
• Any other duties as assigned

Pay Plan: 80 hours per pay period

Summary: The Supervisor 1 is responsible for overseeing direct reports and their work schedule in designated areas.Responsible to oversee all operations of the area assigned including employee supervision, participation in hiring subordinates and monitoring the conduct of employees.

Competencies: Employee must demonstrate excellent leadership qualities and be able to direct and coordinate many utility personnel to complete vital tasks in a timely manner.Must have wide range of knowledge about water production, treatment and distribution systems.Must have the ability to service and make repairs and adjustments to various pieces of equipment. Employee must have the ability to operate a variety of equipment and tools. Specialty equipment includes but is not limited to trucks, track hoe and front-end loader.

Physical Demands: Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.

Required Education/Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent GED and minimum four years’ experience with water and sewer line maintenance activities with a municipal or privately-owned utility. Must have a general knowledge of the rules and regulations governing utility locating and digging in right of ways. LDH Operator certification (Class 2 or above) in water distribution, and wastewater collection preferred. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
