Job summary

Title: Supervisor 1 – Electrical Maintenance
Department: Utilities
Reports To: Supervisor 3 – Electrical Maintenance
Pay Plan: 80 hours per pay period
Type: Full Time

Summary: The Supervisor 1 is responsible for overseeing direct reports and their work schedule in designated areas. Responsible to oversee all operations of the area assigned including employee supervision, participation in hiring subordinates and monitoring the conduct of employees.

• Supervise and coordinate all mechanical and electrical work for all utility systems including Water wells, wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, electrical control panels, etc.
• Supervise and assist in the maintenance, construction, repair and installation of all water and wastewater infrastructure
• Jetting sewer lines
• Check / monitor lift stations, wells and sewer plants, keep lift stations vacuumed and clean
• Troubleshoot electrical issues at all water and wastewater sites
• Assist other departments / utility crews as requested
• Maintain files and documentation, maintenance logs
• Ensure necessary stock is maintained for lift station operations and coordinate with Supervisor 3 to ensure proper inventory amounts are maintained for all utility system components.
• Coordinating with other utility divisions on maintenance and capital project activities including:
  • Build and repair lift stations
  • Build and repair water wells, sewer plants
  • Replace electrical pumps, motors and control panels
• This position is required to monitor after hours notifications/calls and ensure proper response
• Scheduling and reporting employees’ payroll time within the parish policy guideline
• Ensure that all required documentation is submitted and recorded
• Advise supervised employees of changes in policy
• Complete performance evaluations in a fair and equitable manner
• Meet and handle the public in a professional courteous manner and provide assistance within the guidelines established
• May be required to respond to after-hour calls or attend after hour meetings as requested by the Director
• May need to work additional hours as required during emergency situations and assign on-call personnel
• Regular, consistent attendance is required
• Any other duties as assigned

Competencies: Employee must demonstrate excellent leadership qualities and be able to direct and coordinate many utility personnel to complete vital tasks in a timely manner. Have wide range of knowledge about pumps, blowers, electrical panels, water distribution and sewage collection systems. Must have the ability to service and make repairs and adjustments to various pieces of equipment and the ability to operate a variety of equipment and tools. Specialty equipment includes but is not limited to backhoe, jet machine, electrical repair and troubleshooting equipment, crane trucks, and tractors. Can communicate effectively and have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands: Heavy work. Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb to complete various job duties. Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.
Required Education/Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent GED and minimum of five years of experience (including supervisory) in utility electrical and structural maintenance activities including, but not limited to, water wells, wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, electrical panels, flow meters and other appurtenances; proficiency with maintenance and management of electrical and structural equipment, tools and vehicles used in the maintenance process. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing publications on maintaining electrical and structural maintenance equipment. Class 2 (or above) LDH Operator certification in the State of Louisiana in water distribution, water production, and wastewater collection preferred. Employee must have a valid Driver’s License
