Alameda County is seeking a capable leader to plan, organize, and direct the work of pediatric occupational and physical therapists and support staff in the CCS Medical Therapy Program. You will coordinate medical case management and oversee administrative operations of the unit.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of full‑time experience as a Senior Therapist in the Alameda County classified service.
• Three (3) years of full‑time experience as an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist in an institutional or clinical setting, including at least one year treating children with cerebral palsy or other neuro‑muscular or musculoskeletal conditions.
• License: California Board of Occupational Therapy licensure or California Physical Therapy Board licensure.

Overview

Position

Under direction, plan, organize, and direct the work of pediatric occupational and physical therapists and support staff in the California Children’s Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program (MTP). Coordinate medical case management of therapy services, oversee administrative operations of the Medical Therapy Unit, and perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Part I: Two (2) years of full‑time experience as a Senior Therapist in the Alameda County classified service.
• Part II: Three (3) years of full‑time experience as an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist in an institutional or clinical setting, including at least one year treating children with cerebral palsy or other neuro‑muscular or musculoskeletal conditions.
• License: Possession of a California Board of Occupational Therapy licensure (or limited permit) or a California Physical Therapy Board licensure.
• The Civil Service Commission may modify these minimum qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

Knowledge and Skills

• Principles, methods, equipment, and basic theory of physical rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy.
• Anatomy, physiology, pathologies, and equipment used for evaluating and treating physical impairments.
• Principles of psychology and abnormal psychology related to therapy in an outpatient rehabilitation program.
• Principles of Family Centered Care and collaboration with other professionals.
• Lead supervision, management, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
• Knowledge of community programs and resources for families of children with special health care needs.
• Best practices in delivering culturally competent medical services and understanding disparities in health outcomes.
• Planning, organizing, and directing outpatient rehabilitation programs for children and young adults with physical impairments.
• Interpersonal sensitivity, politeness, and group interaction skills to maintain effective relationships.
• Interpretation and implementation of medical recommendations and physician prescriptions.
• Instruction and supervision of staff therapists in client confidence, cooperation, and psychological adjustment.

• Interpretation and explanation of the California Children’s Services program to partners and families.
• Anticipation of MTU needs, budgeting, and operational reporting.
• Understanding of typical child growth and impact of neurological impairments.

Examination Components

• Review of applications to verify minimum requirements.
• Review of supplemental questionnaires to determine best qualified candidates.
• Oral interview weighted 100% of the final examination score, which may include situational exercises.
• All candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each portion of the examination.
