Job description

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center is recruiting for Supervising Phlebotomist to supervise and coordinate the day-to-day operations of phlebotomy services. Plans, directs, and evaluates the work of Phlebotomists and Phlebotomist Trainees; provides technical guidance and training; coordinates phlebotomy workload and processes with other departments; and ensures compliance with established procedures, safety standards, infection control practices, and hospital requirements. Performs and oversees blood collection procedures and assists with resolving operational and patient service issues.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plans, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of Phlebotomists and Phlebotomist Trainees.
• Participates in recruitment, interviews, hiring, promotions, and disciplinary actions; makes personnel recommendations to the Laboratory Manager.
• Coordinates phlebotomy workflow, staffing, and workload needs with other departments.
• Supervises and performs blood collection procedures, including venipuncture, heel sticks, and finger sticks, using appropriate equipment and techniques.
• Provides technical guidance, instruction, and training to Phlebotomist Trainees and newly hired staff.
• Ensures staff comply with hospital education, training, health, safety, and infection control requirements.
• Addresses patient and operational concerns and works with staff and departments to resolve issues.
• Verifies patient identification and requisitions and communicates with patients regarding procedures and specimen collection.
• Maintains phlebotomy supplies, equipment, inventory, and work areas.

Located on a beautiful 70-acre campus in Colton, California (50 miles east of Los Angeles), Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC) is a state-of-the-art, public/nonprofit, 456-bed, university affiliated teaching hospital licensed by the State of California Department of Public Health and accredited by The Joint Commission. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-employment Process: Incumbents must pass a background investigation, which includes verification of employment history and education, in addition to a physical exam and TB test.

Work Schedule: Incumbents must be available to work 8-hour shifts, variable shifts, weekends, and holidays. Indicate your availability on the supplemental application.

CERTIFICATION: Must possess and maintain a current State of California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT-1 or CPT-2) license with the Department of Public Health.

EXPERIENCE: Eighteen (18) months of full-time experience performing venipuncture in a medical environment.

The department seeks candidates who are able to adapt to changes in assignments/schedules and priorities in a positive manner.

Candidates must possess excellent communication skills while working with patients and explaining the phlebotomy process.
