Job summary

outreachworks is seeking a Supervised Visitation Specialist in Scranton, PA. The role reports to the SV Lead and is hourly, non-exempt, with 37.5 hours per week including evenings and weekends.

You will supervise visits, conduct intake evaluations, and liaise with courts and families to ensure safe, supportive interactions. Required are a relevant degree and 3–5 years of related experience; Spanish language skills are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree; 3–5 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Background in counseling/mental health preferred.
  • Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Microsoft Office skills and accurate typing/data entry required.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and supervises visits between non-custodial parents/caregivers and children.
  • Conducts thorough intake evaluations.
  • Observes and monitors parenting skills/behavior; intervenes and redirects as needed.
  • Produces comprehensive notes using the DAP format.
  • Regularly writes and submits reports to the court; may testify.
  • Acts as liaison between custodial/noncustodial caregivers, the court, and service providers.
  • Provides transportation for visits as needed.
  • Performs data entry (Excel) and file maintenance; attends meetings.

Supervised Visitation Specialist

Reports to: Supervised Visitation (SV) Lead

FLSA Status: Hourly, non-exempt

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, evenings and weekends required

Responsibilities
  • Schedules and supervises visits between non-custodial parents/caregivers and children.
  • Conducts thorough intake evaluations.
  • Observes and monitors physical and emotional parenting skills/knowledge, boundary setting and overall parent-child interaction. Models appropriate parenting behavior, intervenes, and redirects as needed.
  • Performs comprehensive note taking using DAP format.
  • Regularly writes and submits reports to the court, which may include testifying in court.
  • Acts as a liaison and family intermediary between custodial and noncustodial caregivers, the court system and other service providers.
  • Provides transportation for visits as needed.
  • Regular data entry (Excel and agency database) and file maintenance.
  • Participates in agency and team meetings.
  • Represents agency in community or in interagency activities.
  • Attends professional development opportunities when available.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The position requires the ability to remain neutral and calm in the face of parents who may display high levels of animosity toward each other, caregivers, or Outreach staff; to work on participants’ strengths while remaining firm when needed. Experience working with people from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds is preferred.

Education/Experience: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree; 3 to 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Background in the counseling/mental health field preferred. Spanish language skills are preferred.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office skills and accurate typing/data entry skills required.

Certificates and Licenses
  • Must have, or meet the requirements to obtain, current ACT 33 (Child Abuse) & 34 (Criminal Background) clearances.
  • Must be able to obtain additional clearances as required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Must annually complete all training hours required by Outreach.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position requires regular evening and weekend hours and the ability to work a flexible schedule. The Supervised Visitation Specialist may occasionally encounter an angry or threatening client who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs and/or be exposed to potential hostile domestic situations, such as protection from abuse orders (PFAs). There are occasional cases where allegations of abuse or sexual abuse have been made.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds or more on occasion (e.g., car seats, children).
