Job summary

CPKC, based in Vivian, LA, seeks a Superior Tie & Timber (ST&T) Maintenance Technician to keep equipment running safely and efficiently. You’ll perform welding and cutting, inspect engines, tires, hydraulic cylinders, and service fluids, following safety procedures in a collaborative, safety‑first environment.

The role offers hands‑on maintenance, opportunities to assume supervisor duties, and a culture focused on integrity, accountability, and teamwork. Local applicants preferred; travel 0–10%.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic experience is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of rail, track materials, switches, and bridge materials is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with warehouse/heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, service, and repair equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
  • Use welding and cutting tools to complete equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Inspect and replace key equipment components, including engines, tires, hydraulic cylinders, and related parts.
  • Service engines and exchange equipment fluids as required.
  • Follow established safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment for team members and operators.
  • Assume Maintenance Supervisor duties when required.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

As a Superior Tie & Timber(ST&T) Maintenance Technician, you'll play an important role in keeping equipment running safely, reliably, and efficiently. In this hands-on role, you'll use your mechanical skills to maintain, service, and repair equipment, including performing welding and cutting work, inspecting and replacing key components such as engines, tires, and hydraulic cylinders, and servicing engines and fluids as needed. The selected candidate will help create a safe and productive work environment by following established safety procedures and supporting the well-being of fellow team members, plant workers, and equipment operators.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic experience is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of rail, other track material (OTM), switches, and bridge materials, with the ability to sort, stack, store, and handle materials appropriately
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of warehouse and/or heavy construction equipment
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures

This is a safety-sensitive position and a successful pre-employment medical assessment, including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test, is required. Post-hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
