Job summary

American Water is seeking a supervisor to oversee day-to-day water and wastewater operations in Farmingdale, NJ. The role emphasizes adherence to company policies, regulatory compliance, and safe operational practices.

The candidate will lead a team, manage budgets, and support process improvements while coordinating with cross-functional partners. A valid license and relevant certifications are preferred, with on-site responsibilities and a 7:00am–3:30pm schedule.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-5 years experience in operations.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Water and/or wastewater certification is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience managing a team and union workforce preferred.
  • Strong Excel knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise regional water/wastewater operations within established budget.
  • Assures policies, procedures, programs and performance are adhered to for efficiency and profitability.
  • Train and develop personnel in operational integrity and safety.
  • Obtain all required permits, licenses, rights of way, etc. for compliance.
  • May be involved in customer service related issues.
  • Support pricing analysis and integration of opportunities in both regulated and non-regulated markets.

Position Information

$70,690 to $118,100

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and has the opportunity for continued salary growth. If you are hired at American Water your base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as market, geography, skills, education and/or experience. Primary Role

Supervises the day-to-day water and/or wastewater operations in accordance with Company policies and procedures and all applicablegovernmental laws and regulations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Supervise and coordinate regional construction, operations, and maintenance within established budget limitations. (10%)
  • Assures policies, procedures, programs and performance are adhered to ensure the continuing and increasing operational efficiency, effectiveness, and profitability. (10%)
  • Train and develop personnel in proper operational integrity (quality, environment, reliability, health, safety, security,
  • etc.) is maintained. (10%)
  • Obtains all required permits, licenses, rights of way, etc. required for proper compliance. (10%)
  • May be involved in customer service related issues. (10%)
  • Implement and foster the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation,within respective functional areas. (10%)
  • Support the Business Development function in the operational analysis pricing and integration of water and wastewater business opportunities in both the regulated and non-regulated markets Supports manger to ensure effective people management policies and practices are developed and implemented (e.g., time and attendance, workforce management, etc.) and ensure resources are developed and deployed appropriately. Continue to reinforce the importance of developing a diverse workforce. Work collaboratively with other functional leads to mitigate business risks. Implement effective communications at all levels of our operations. Provide effectiveleadership that will enhance our abilities to be flexible to changing business environments. Contribute to effective communication bylistening and providing constructive feedback; supporting the creation of an open and honest work environment; cascading and sharing knowledge and information relevant to other members of the team and colleagues across the business. (40%)
Knowledge/Skills

Knowledge of the regulated water business and the regulations impacting the business. Knowledge of process and operational areas.

Experience/Education
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience in operations.
  • Bachelors or equivalent experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Water and/or wastewater certification is a plus
  • Field utility experience is highly preferred
  • Previous experience managing a team is preferred
  • Previous experience managing a Union workforce is preferred
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Applications; Strong Excel knowledge
Travel Requirements

Local and occasional regional travel.

Work Environment
  • Position will be based out - 149 Yellowbrook Road Suite 109 Farmingdale NJ 07727
  • Position will be Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm
  • On-call responsibility
  • Indoor and outdoor environment. 24/7 operations.
