Freeport-McMoRan Inc. seeks a Senior Commissioning Engineer to plan, organize, and manage commissioning activities for facilities, ensuring performance meets defined objectives.

The role requires leadership over the commissioning process and coordination with site staff and external partners. Hybrid work environment with in-person collaboration at Phoenix locations, flexible scheduling, and travel as needed to support projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent training/experience.
• Minimum 6 years of field experience in commissioning, maintenance, and startup activities for electrical equipment.
• Alternative: High School diploma with 10 years progressive field experience.

Responsibilities

• Establishes tactical and strategic goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
• Directs Supervisors and other staff involved in the Commissioning process; inspects operations to ensure quality of work.
• Manages delivery of moderate-to-complex capital projects from pre-feasibility to commissioning on time and within budget.
• Maintains project plan aligned with approved schedule and standards.
• Plans and coordinates work for assigned commissioning responsibilities, including contractual administration for construction projects.
• Provides information and resources to site officials and other departments.
• Responds to questions and provides information to the public.
• Coordinates activities of consultants and contractors.
• Performs other duties as required.

What You Will Do

Under limited supervision, plans, organizes, and manages commissioning activities to evaluate the performance of facilities, systems, and assemblies for ensuring they meet defined objectives and criteria. Responsible for the all inclusive quality-oriented process for the planning, delivery, verification, and managing risks to critical functions

• Establishes tactical and strategic goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
• Directs Supervisors and other staff involved in the Commissioning process. Inspects daily operations and projects in progress and upon completion to assure quality of work. Provides administrative and technical direction to staff; interprets established policies and procedures.
• Accountable for delivering moderately complex capital projects, from pre-feasibility to commissioning, on time, budget, and specifications
• Maintains project plan in accordance to approved project schedule and established policies and standards
• Develops, plans, and coordinates the work plan for assigned commissioning responsibilities, which may include the administration of contractual proposals relating to construction projects. Coordinates work with other units and site departments.
• Provides information and resources to site officials and other departments
• Answer questions and provide information to the public
• Coordinates the activities of consultants and contractors
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent in training and/or field experience and a minimum 6 years’ experience in the field OR High School diploma or GED and a minimum 10 years progressive experience in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the startup, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment, including switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), motors, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Strong knowledge of electrical theory, circuits, motor controls, power distribution systems, and industrial electrical equipment. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing electrical systems and equipment in an industrial environment.
• Experience conducting electrical testing, commissioning, and startup activities to support safe and reliable operations.
• Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and safe work practices, with a strong commitment to compliance and operational excellence.
• Ability to support planned outages, shutdowns, turnarounds, startups, and commissioning activities. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions.

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $97,500-$138,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.

What We Require

Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol-free work environment using mandatory pre-employment drug testing as allowed by applicable laws.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the time (up to 40% domestic travel and up to 40% international travel), based on business needs. Domestic travel may require extended time at operating sites, including week-long assignments or longer. International travel typically involves trips of two weeks or more. This position also requires a minimum of two days per week working on-site at company locations and may require additional on-site presence based on operational needs.
