Job Summary

The Plant Superintendent is responsible for managing daily operations of the quarry, including supervision of all hourly employees. Responsible for budgeting; mine planning; permitting; working as a member of the plant management team to achieve operational goals and objectives; managing contracts and contractors; and community relations.

Job Responsibilities

1. Monitor cost and help maintain costs in the quarry/crushing operation
2. Develop and maintain a safe and environmentally compliant operation with the assistance of the Safety and Environmental Representatives
3. Help develop new operational methods to reduce costs and produce a more consistent feed to the plant
4. Interface with Corporate Mining staff as well as local QC staff to develop the short-term and long-term mining plan
5. Direct production to meet quality and quantity requirements and coordinate adjustments to the production schedule as needed
6. Manage employee time and attendance
7. Review daily pre-shift inspections, listing required repairs and providing this to the mobile maintenance vendor
8. Responsible for the scheduling and performance of the drilling and blasting program
9. Obtaining and tracking requested fixed plant repairs by the production crew and coordinating with Maintenance Manager
10. Perform daily work area inspection and sign required documentation
11. Maintain purchasing of regular materials for the operation and work with Procurement to purchase routine materials
12. Maintain operational compliance with zoning and related permits
13. Develop annual budget for the operation
14. Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA rules and regulations at all times
15. Wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds
16. Meet or exceed company safety standards
17. Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree in Mining or Civil Engineering preferred
2. 3 years of quarry supervision experience required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Must be computer literate with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and possibly mine planning software
2. Excellent written/verbal communication skills
3. Able to analyze information and drive initiatives
4. Bi-lingual (a plus)
5. Creative thinking and problem solving skills
6. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects successfully
7. Strong technical systems aptitude
8. Superior interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate and communicate with different internal and external audiences

Working Conditions

1. Capable of working in an open concept office environment

Physical Requirements

1. Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
2. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
3. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors
