Paving Superintendent | Highway Asphalt (DOT) | Wyoming (Traveling)
Lead the crew that sets the standard for highway paving in the state.
About the Opportunity
A long-established, owner-led heavy civil contractor in Wyoming is seeking a Paving Superintendent to lead its highway asphalt operations across state DOT projects.
Founded in the 1960s, the business has built a reputation as one of the leading paving contractors in the state, recognised by the DOT, clients and competitors for the quality of its work. The company self-performs production and lay-down on highway projects up to $30M and consistently wins state DOT asphalt quality and smoothness awards.
This is a close-knit, high-integrity organisation where leadership is accessible, people are recognised, and quality is never compromised for convenience. The company has grown revenue significantly over the past three years.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Quality-Driven Culture: Join a contractor that would rather mill out and redo work than accept a patch job, where integrity is the number one value and is put into practice.
- Genuine Progression: There is a clear path from Superintendent to Vice President.
- Year-Round Stability: This is a full-time, salaried, year-round position. Your salary does not drop in the off-season.
- Benefits: Health insurance is 100% company-paid for the employee and 75% for dependents, plus a 401(k).
- Relocation Assistance: Available for the right candidate. Prior Wyoming experience is not required.
The Role
You’ll oversee the full paving operation on your projects, covering both hot plant and lay-down, with primary focus on the lay-down side. This is fundamentally a leadership and scheduling role. Ownership values your ability to run people and keep the operation moving more than deep technical mastery of every part of the plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the complete paving operation on state DOT highway projects, typically 10,000–140,000+ tons per job
- Manage three direct reports, a hot plant foreman, a lay-down foreman and a truck boss, along with the operators and laborers beneath them
- Plan and coordinate daily scheduling across plant production, trucking and lay-down
- Drive quality and smoothness performance to maximise DOT incentive bonusesMaintain a strong safety culture and accountability across the crew
- Report to and work closely with the VP/Project Manager responsible for each project
Schedule & Travel
- This is a traveling role across job sites throughout Wyoming.
- You’ll travel to site Sunday evening or Monday morning and stay on-site while the job runs.
- The working season runs about six months and is weather-driven. When it’s time to go, the crews go.
Qualifications
- Highway or road construction experience is essential. City streets, parking lots and commercial paving are not a substitute.
- You need proven experience managing crews and foremen in the field.
- Asphalt paving experience is strongly preferred, ideally across production and lay-down.
- There is no minimum project size, provided the background is highway work.
- You should have a stable career history and long-term commitment.
Ideal Candidate
- A hands-on highway paving leader with a high motor, someone who gets things done and holds their crew to a high standard.
- Takes real pride in quality and wants to work for a contractor that does the same.
- Ready to embrace a traveling, seasonal-intensity lifestyle in exchange for top-of-market pay, year-round salary and a clear path into project leadership.
- Looking for a long-term home with a respected, owner-led contractor rather than another short stop.
If you’re a highway paving superintendent or a senior foreman ready to step up, I’d welcome a confidential conversation.
