Job description

Location: NC, GA, FL

Industry: Heavy Civil / Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

Experience: 5+ Years

The Fordy Group are exclusively representing a leading, well-established heavy civil general contractor in the search for an experienced Superintendent to join their Water & Wastewater team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a field leader with a strong background in self-performed wastewater infrastructure construction who wants to take ownership of complex, technically challenging projects that have a direct impact on local communities.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing field operations on major wastewatertreatment plants, water treatment facilities, pump stations, process facilities and associated infrastructure.

The contractor is heavily self-performing and operates across multiple disciplines, including civil, concrete, mechanical and electrical construction. Their projects can involve large concrete structures, underground utilities, process piping, pumps and equipment, electrical systems, controls, site development and complex tie-ins to existing facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage day-to-day field operations on major water/wastewater projects
  • Direct self-performed crews and coordinate subcontractors and suppliers
  • Plan and execute work safely, efficiently and in accordance with project schedules
  • Coordinate civil, mechanical and electrical activities across the project
  • Review plans, specifications and drawings and identify constructability issues
  • Manage manpower, equipment, materials and production
  • Maintain high standards of quality and safety throughout construction
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Owners and subcontractors
  • Track production and progress against project schedules
  • Assist with project planning, sequencing, scheduling and problem solving
  • Ensure work is completed on time, within budget and to the required specifications
  • Lead commissioning, testing and turnover activities where required
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of Superintendent experience in heavy civil construction
  • Strong experience working for a self-performing general contractor
  • Proven experience constructing wastewater treatment plants or major water/wastewater infrastructure
  • Experience overseeing multiple construction disciplines and field crews
  • Strong understanding of civil construction, concrete, underground utilities and/or mechanical process systems
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and schedules
  • Experience working safely on large, complex infrastructure projects
  • Strong communication and leadership skillsAbility to coordinate effectively with owners, engineers, subcontractors and internal project teams
  • Willingness to travel or work throughout the Southeast as project requirements dictate
Ideal Background

We are particularly interested in Superintendents who have worked on projects involving:

  • Wastewater Treatment Plants
  • Water Treatment Plants
  • Pump Stations
  • Process Piping
  • Underground Utilities
  • Clarifiers, basins and treatment tanks
  • Site Development and Mass Excavation
  • Mechanical Process Equipment
  • Electrical / Instrumentation / Controls
  • Plant expansions, upgrades and rehabilitation
  • Design-Build and CM-at-Risk projects
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to join an established infrastructure contractor with a long-standing reputation in water and wastewater construction, where Superintendents are given genuine responsibility for building technically complex projects rather than simply managing subcontractors.

The work spans traditional Design-Bid-Build as well as Design-Build and CM-at-Risk delivery, providing exposure to some of the most technically diverse infrastructure projects in the Southeast.

The ideal candidate will be a builder first - someone who understands means and methods, can lead from the field, and has hands-on experience delivering wastewater infrastructure through a self-performing GC environment.
