Appleton Finn, a well-established construction firm, seeks an experienced Superintendent to own day-to-day project execution across diverse civil and infrastructure work in the St. Louis area.
The role requires leadership, safety focus, and the ability to manage crews, subcontractors, and client relations while traveling as needed within the broader St. Louis market.
Our client is a well-established and growing construction business with a strong presence throughout the St. Louis market. With an expanding pipeline of civil and infrastructure work, they are looking to add experienced Superintendents to their team.
The business is looking for a strong field leader who can take ownership of projects, manage crews and subcontractors, coordinate day-to-day site activities, and ensure work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Superintendent who enjoys variety, autonomy, and working as part of a close-knit team, rather than being permanently tied to one type of project.
Superintendents will generally be assigned to a primary project but should be comfortable moving between projects when required. The workload is fluid, meaning someone may move onto another project where their particular experience is needed before returning to their original assignment.
Projects can range from smaller, fast-moving asphalt and concrete work through to large, multi-year, multimillion-dollar civil and infrastructure projects.
The business is particularly interested in Superintendents who bring strong leadership capabilities and can effectively manage people in the field.
Projects include:
The business is looking for someone who is a proven field leader, rather than simply someone with many years of operating experience.
Strong candidates will ideally have:
Importantly, the company is looking for someone who wants to lead people and contribute to the wider organization, not simply someone who wants to show up, run the work, and go home. Culture and personality are a major part of the hiring decision.
The company is based in the St Louis, MO area, with the majority of projects located within approximately 1-1.5 hours of the office.
Superintendents do not need to live near the office and would generally travel directly from home to their assigned jobsite.
There are occasional projects further afield. At present, there are projects approximately three hours south of St. Louis which require an overnight stay, with employees generally returning home for the weekend.
The company provides a company pickup truck (F150) and fuel card for Superintendents.
For longer-distance assignments, per diem of approximately $220 per day is available.
The company places significant value on its people and is looking for someone who wants to become part of the wider team.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, personable, collaborative, and comfortable building relationships with both field and office teams. Participation in company events, team activities, and the broader company culture is encouraged.
This is a business where people are expected to contribute beyond simply completing their individual project responsibilities.
