Job summary

NG Gilbert Construction, a Townsend Company, is seeking a seasoned Superintendent to lead utility construction operations across diverse projects in New Jersey and surrounding areas. You will direct field crews, manage safety, budgets, and schedules, and build strong customer relationships to deliver safe, on-time, high-quality results.

You’ll coach General Foremen and foremen, coordinate resources, support estimating and bid prep, and drive profitability while maintaining OSHA and company

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in utility construction operations.
• 3+ years supervising multiple crews or frontline supervisors.
• Experience managing customer relationships and operational performance.
• Experience managing budgets, production goals, scheduling, and financial performance.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, ANSI Z133 standards, DOT requirements, and utility safety practices.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

We are looking for an experienced Superintendent who can lead utility construction operations, develop field leaders, strengthen customer relationships, and drive safe, efficient, and profitable performance.

This is an opportunity for an experienced utility construction leader who enjoys being close to the operation—not simply managing from behind a desk.

What You’ll Do

As Superintendent, you will have overall responsibility for the execution and performance of assigned utility construction operations. You will lead General Foremen, Foremen, and field crews while partnering with customers and company leadership to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to contractual requirements.

In this role, you will:

• Lead daily field operations across assigned projects and territories.
• Coach, develop, and hold General Foremen and field leadership accountable for operational performance.
• Develop production plans and schedules to meet customer commitments.
• Monitor productivity, quality, safety, and overall field performance.
• Build strong relationships with utility customers and serve as a key operational point of contact.
• Participate in customer meetings, project reviews, presentations, and contract discussions.
• Manage operational budgets, labor utilization, equipment costs, materials, subcontractors, and other project resources.
• Review job costs and operational metrics and take action when performance falls below expectations.
• Ensure projects meet contract specifications, customer expectations, company standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Support estimating, budgeting, pricing, and bid preparation for new and existing work.
• Coordinate personnel, fleet, equipment, materials, and subcontractor resources.
• Lead and support storm restoration and emergency response activities when needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

The Superintendent is expected to actively promote a safety-first culture, conduct field observations and inspections, ensure crews receive appropriate training, and maintain compliance with OSHA, ANSI Z133, DOT, customer, and company safety requirements.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced field leader who understands utility construction operations and knows how to balance people, production, safety, customers, and financial performance.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in utility construction operations.
• 3+ years of experience supervising multiple crews or frontline supervisors.
• Demonstrated experience managing customer relationships and operational performance.
• Experience managing budgets, production goals, scheduling, and financial performance.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, ANSI Z133 standards, DOT requirements, and utility safety practices.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DOT Medical Certification, if required.
• Ability to successfully complete required pre-employment screenings.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business Management, Forestry, Arboriculture, or a related field.
