Building Officials Conference of Northeast Ohio is seeking an Inspector to perform inspections of industrial, residential and commercial facilities to ensure compliance with state and local building codes; reviews plans; issues final approvals.
The role requires a high school equivalent diploma, Ohio Level 3 Inspector Certification with Electrical Safety endorsement preferred, and a valid Ohio driver’s license. Work involves travel to various sites and standing up to 60 pounds repeatedly.
Under general supervision; conducts inspections of industrial, residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with state and local building codes; prepares reports on inspections. Performs other related duties as required.

Completion of a high school equivalent education. Must possess a valid Ohio Board of Building Standards Level 3 Inspector Certifcation with a preference for Electrical Safety Inspector endorsement. Must possess a valid State of Ohio vehicle operator’s license.
Comprehensive knowledge of state and local building codes; inspection procedures; installation and repair procedures.
Basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures; department practices and procedures; office practices and procedures; permit issuance procedures. Ability to read and interpret building plans; carry out instructions in written, oral or picture form; work alone on most projects; demonstrate physical fitness; prepare meaningful, accurate and concise records; maintain accurate records; communicate effectively in written, oral or verbal form.

The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification. Schedules and conducts inspections of industrial, residential and commercial facilities to ensure compliance with local and state building codes; reviews plans and ensures construction meets specifications required by plans; reinspects equipment and facilities as required; gives final approval to projects. Compiles detailed notes on each specific inspection conducted, e.g. date, time started/ended, progress of work, violations, approvals, permit applications; prepares reports on work activities and reports, inspections; prepares special reports regarding complaints from citizens and governmental agencies. Provides advice to architects, engineers, contractors, craftsmen, property owners, maintenance personnel and citizens regarding state and local electrical building codes; recommends alternative methods of compliance to codes; provides court testimony in cases related to building code violations.
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
