Job summary

Los Angeles LGBT Center in Los Angeles, CA seeks interns for the Youth Service – Workforce Development program. The internship offers hands-on exposure in our Youth Center, including work readiness, financial literacy, skills development, career coaching and mentoring, with placements in the commercial kitchen, front desk, and community partner sites.

Responsibilities

• Culinary Arts Program: culinary skill building and kitchen duties.
• Social Service Vocational Training: 4-week classroom training and group facilitation.
• Youth Center drop-in space: provide customer service and assist with storing and retrieving youth personal items.
• Residential Team: facilitate engaging activities with peers and maintain cleanliness of residential area.
• Senior Services: engage with seniors that are 50+ years old.
• Volunteer Resources: assist with various Center events.
• Other Departments: video production and Youth Advisory Council, off-site partnerships.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

The Youth Center serves youth up to the age of 24 who are currently at-risk of or experiencing homelessness. The Youth Center offers services in an LGBTQ+ safe and affirming environment and serves as an entry point to assist youth making the transition from homelessness to housing. Our services include meals, clothing, support groups, a charter high school, GED and college prep program, an employment preparation, training and placement program, case management, counseling, a crisis shelter and a transitional living program (TLP). Our community-based programs include services for youth at-home, in school or in systems of care.

JOB SUMMARY

Our internship program aims to prepare individuals for the workforce by providing work readiness, financial literacy, skills development, career coaching, and mentoring. Internship placements range from working onsite in our amazing commercial kitchen (Culinary Arts Program), to working the front desk at our Youth Center drop-in space, and we offer offsite placements with community partners like OUAI cosmetics, LA DogWorks, Growing Hope Gardens, The Center at Blessed Sacrament, amongst many others.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Will Range Depending On Placement

• Culinary Arts Program: culinary skill building, cooking, sanitizing station in a commercial kitchen setting
• Social Service Vocational Training: 4-week classroom training twice per week by the 6-week you will start working in a social service setting; facilitating groups, recruitment for various groups,
• Youth Center drop-in space: provide customer service for all youth entering the center space, assisting with storing and retrieving youth personal items
• Residential Team: Facilitate engaging activities with peers and provide cleanliness to residential area.
• Senior Services: Engage with Seniors that are 50 plus years of age
• Volunteer Resources: Assist with various Center events
• Other Departments: Video production, Youth Advisory Council, Off-Site Business Partners.
