Job summary

The Minnesota Star Tribune is seeking a User Experience (UX) Intern to join our Product & Technology team at our Minneapolis, MN headquarters for a 10-week summer internship in 2027. Designed for undergraduates, grads, and recent grads, the role focuses on creating exceptional digital experiences and exploring the product side of local news.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate student, graduate student, or recent graduate.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Understanding of design thinking and feedback incorporation.
• Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using Figma.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Adaptable learner with quick grasp of new tools and concepts.
• Passion for UX design and meaningful digital products.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and UX designers on projects that support company-wide initiatives and serve local news audiences.
• Contribute to user research, UX strategy, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity design.
• Assist in planning, conducting, and synthesizing user research to identify user needs and opportunities for product improvement.
• Create and maintain design documentation, annotations, and supporting materials for cross-functional collaboration.
• Support the maintenance and evolution of the design system for consistency across digital products.
• Participate in design reviews, audits, and usability evaluations to improve user experiences and product quality.
• Present design concepts, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders and project teams.
• Work on meaningful, real-world projects that provide hands-on experience in news product design and audience engagement.
• Build a portfolio of UX work while gaining exposure to how product, design, and technology teams collaborate to create impactful digital experiences.
